Second hand cams
I've just bought a Puma for a winter hack and to slowly turn into next years track car.
I'd like some cams but as it's a bit of a budget blaster, I would prefer not to buy brand new if I can help it! Are second hand cams okay to use?

dont rev these too hard or the timing belt will jump, STD limmit is fine but above 7500 the belt jumps due to poor design when the engine revs drop back off
Also i doubt Shawspeed doesnt supply cams!

its not too drastic, either copy the stuff other people have made or make a manual setup from scratch..
used to look after a few VCT engines in pumas and KA`s built for gpA and N, most had modded tensioners and guides.
nothing "spring" or self tensioned should be used IMO unless it has a damper like jap/vag stuff.

Ben, check out ryan g puma thread, there are Pictures of his fixed tensioner.
Racing puma is a good upgrade in cam and I wouldn't have an issue using a s/h one in that engine, stuff like cvh you need to stay away from but a cossie, puma, zetec all seem pretty good

They seem to fetch good money, as does anything Racing Puma! Unless he's still got his? I was hoping to go a little wilder on cams lol.

His engine is staying complete bud he stsrted his big build on a 40k std puma lump!
The tensioner the old man made from a billet and used a cossie cam belt tensioner in a smaller billet housing
Lightening motorsport do an uprated belt and fixed tensioner around the £300 mark
We would have used this as chris is very good with the puma engine but we made one for material and our own time so was a no brainer as rys budget has been massively stretched already lol
