I drove to work in the car this morning and the lights on the dash started going dim and when you revved it it went back to normal again same with the head lights.I got to work and the car konked out and wouldn't start I had to push it into works carpark.I came back to it tonight to find its starts again but it does the same thing I had to get my missus to follow me back home in case it went dead again.The battery is new as well. I checked the alternator on sunday and seemed fine but under load its no good.Im wondering if the alternator is fooked is it worth upgrading to a higher amp alternator? its for a 2 litre blacktop mondeo engine off a mk2.Also my idle speed control valve is playing up it revs sky high into 2 1/2 thou comes back down and when you change gear its off again so as for a Monday ive had a shite one

 

Most electrical shops can rebuild you alternator with stronger brushes and better charge rate, you may find you're idling issue may be linked?
