Default This Plastidip malarky, what's it all about?!

Can anyone explain what this plastidip malarky is all about, seems to be popular now but never really looked into it. I want to replace my grey / chrome grill on the front of my Audi but even the cheapo non-oem ones are £250+. A lot of people say 'plastidip your current one black' but noone really advises of the process. Is it something you buy from a can and literally spray it on? Where can you buy it? Is it a case of paying more for a decent make one or is it all the same?!!

Cheers

Don't know the ins-and-outs of it, but saw a UK M3 CSL plastidipped matt black at 'ring at the weekend, was a grey car originally, apparently 'just peels off' when/if want to return to original colour.

The branded plastidip is most popular, just expensive.

The main attraction with plastidip is the ease of good finish and if you don't like it, it peels off. If you wanted the grills done permanently in black, I'd get them sprayed properly. My friends black plastidip is grey now with sunlight.

I might use it for my alloys over winter - stop the salt eating them!

Have a look on youtube, there is thousands of videos. Even on specifics like grills.

Example.

EDIT: Infact his channel "DipYourCar" seems to have video tutrials and answers for most questions.

Blimey handy that it can be taken off, this is reason I want to do the grill with this stuff rather than spray it as they are quite dear to replace!

Where can I buy the proper plastidip from?!

i'm thinking of doing the same with my wheels, they need refurbishing really, but a plasti-coat may be better through winter and then sort them out.

I bought some, had a go on a bumper but couldnt get the mix out of the gun right (first time spraying) but it worked really well just I had a lot of runs in it. Peels off really easy when you want to put hit it with the jet wash to see what it would be like for durability and it was good. Mine was just down to user error and would defo recommend it.

It's good but don't expect the finish to last long. I did the front lower grille on my old St, looked pretty tired and faded after a few months. Was very resilient to stone chips etc though.
