Toyo R888
Well I'm looking for a alternative tyre than the conti 3's that I have. They are very good tyres, but just looking if there is anything better. They will be used every day on the road.
Good road tyre and not bad in the damp, standing water isn't great though.
On track they're good for a few laps in a light ish car 1000-1100kg but go off after this. I don't think they would do a lap of the ring without falling off.
Anything heavier And high poweree a lap or two tops when they're at optimum then they go to shit.mwe had a set of 235s on the old grp a escos at 610bhp and ey were two laps then in the gravel

what are you using on the saff?
i was thinking about some 888,s aswell as it will only be used in dry weather
nothing was changed at all except tyres they are phenomenal tyres for dry road grip and eccential for rwd imo, they will work the stock puny gearbox and diff quite possibly to death though

and here is the before and after runs after the tyre change

that is how good r888s are compared to Pirelli p1s

ah thats what i was looking for cheers mate
that is some difference ,probably another 200bhp wouldnt give you that kind of advantage
i have quaiffe box ,quaiffe diff ,6 degree beam but keeping the engine to about 380bhp for that bit of reliability

I have Pirelli p zero neros James, pretty shit but I'm not interested in grip, all I want is something to drive on lol. To be fair to them now theyve bed into the car they put it down in third
Great tyres on my track car ,done 20 laps on the ring no problem ,and countless track days on them ,normally 170 laps of brands on a track day,can stay out for a good 20 mins on them no probs ,I don't think they are bad in the wet either ,but I would not want them on my car that I use as a daily

I use them on my race car and there are about as good as you can get pound for pound, not tried the khumo V70 that some of the guys in my championship run.
At a soaking wet knockhill and snetterton in 2012 the grip was fantastic compared to guys around me check out this video of me outbraking the evo after the bentley straight on lap one at snetterton on 888's
shame the knackered cylinder head and resulting missfire ruined my race lol

888's are awesome tyres in the dry and in the wet people who say they are shit in the wet clearly can't drive or modify the way they drive in the wet!
Or they are using 888's with little or no tread left as you're only going to clear water that's shallower than the depth of the tread the same as any other tyre for that matter.
To be fair I've never tried the V70's but they do get good reviews form the other guys that run them in hillclimbing.

I've had A048s,R888s and Kumho V70a on my mk2 Golf track car, drove all the way to the ring and back and did 30 laps on them (R888s) a few years ago, still 'just' legal on the fronts when I got back, wet track they are good, but shit in standing water on Belgian motorways 'Aquaplanage anyone?'
A048s were great on track but tramlined terribly on road, I had hard front and medium rear Kumhos on the advice of Camskill, they wore very well and were great once warmed up.
Agree with jimbo's comments on R888s on heavier cars, heard a lot of people say they don't work on cars 1300kg+ , however I saw a few M3s running them at the 'ring last weekend.
Another point to running things like R888s on the road is the noise they make, on the run down to Schwedenkruez on the 'ring (130-140mph) they sounded like a Stuka dive bomber.
Yokohama AD08s get good reviews and are not as track focused as the tyres I mention above, sort of an in-between thing.
If running 18s something like Michelin Pilot Cups (as fitted on CSLs/GT3s etc) might be worth thinking about, they are pretty shit in the wet though I'm told. (the link says they're good in the wet so ,feck knows!)

I wouldn't be considering any dry focused, track tyre for just road use, especially with winter coming. The extra road noise is pretty bad TBH. You're very rarely going to get the opportunity to use that extra 5 odd % that they'll give you. Maybe go for AD08s at a push, I use Toyo R1Rs for road/wet track use but that's only on a Clio. They get hot very quickly on track but have excellent wet weather grip. That would be my only choice for a track tyre to use on the road. Personally in your shoes I'd stick with the Contis or go Michelin PS3 or P Zero.

I'm at the ring next ear on them hopefully they will make a lap at a time without over heating too bad.
r888 are soo expensive. i would throw federal 595 rsr into the mix. they start with 7mm tread and i think 888 are 5mm and they last longer than 888 apparently.
at llandow circuit i cut 1.7secs of a lap compared to toyo proxes 4s. r888 would be a few 10ths quicker from what i read but value for money nothing beats federal

I think for dry/damp Steve you're right. Great value for money but for the price of 888s, I would be looking at Dunlop Direzzas or Michelin Pilot Sport Cups. They're both in a different league again to RSRs.
my mate has the dunlop dg 03 i think they are and he gets great grip with them. they wear twice as quick as my federals but grip seems awesome from them.
he also picked up a new set of them for £300 in 195 55 15 which was dirt cheap too. guy gave them cost to him
That's them Steve, DZ03g. Only replaced the rears on mine from the Federals and could feel the difference straight away but like you say the Federals are great for the money, probably the ideal choice for track days. I only opted for the Dunlops as you know, I'm going racing next year and other Clio racer friends swear by them.

I've heard nothing but good things said about the DZ03g's, Phil Morrison says they are even better than 888's but they are even more expensive
He also uses Michelin Pilot Cups on his GT3 but they only come with 4mm tread from new and are even more expensive

I'd love to beable to afford to try out a set of V70's, DZ03g's and the Michelin Pilot Cups but it's rather an expensive test that I can't afford.

I really would like to do back to back with the new ad08r against 888, the thing is 888 are on a road tyre carcass where as the likes of ad048 are on a race carcass, the side walls are night and day apart,
I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!

DZ03G's are cheaper than R888's by £10 iirc (in 15s) so can't see why thay be more expensive in diffrent sizes, As for Toyo Proxies R888 don't waste you money on them at this time of year! Anything below 10c kills the tyres and because of the lack of tread there deadly on standing water and a death trap in snow.
As for all the others said (havn't look at them all posted) but dont by a single one there fucking summer tyres which are a total watse of money duing this time of year because the rubber gets to hard. Just by some nice winter tyres and thay will out perform every trye post (unless someone said a winter tyre that is lol)
