I currently drive a 2005 Mondeo ST Tdci, the car is absolutely brilliant and is driving spot on. Me and the 2 previous owners have really looked after the car and anything which needed changing has been done with genuine parts.

At the moment the car is on 158,000 and still fine but how long can these engines realistically last? On its last service they carry out a 180 point check and came back with a few things like discs/pads and crankshaft pulley damper all of which are now done.

I have read online that the injectors are a common fault and likely to go soon at this mileage also the clutch/dmf is probably going to need replacing within 10k miles.

At the moment I am considering selling it and buying a 535D but the Mondeo is a great car and I don't mind keeping it another year. My decision is to sell now whilst its all OK rather than have £1000+ bills next year!

I know its hard to say how long it will last but what do you think if I keep up the regular maintenance etc

Injectors,dmf, cam chain tensioner etc can go at any time. If you have done 158k without having to replace any of that you have done very well.

 

The injectors are still the originals I believe, DMF was replaced apparently but no paperwork as the previous owner was a mechanic. Other than that its been crankshaft pulley, hubs and general wear and tear parts. Everything else is well documented.

I'm at the point where I think is it worth keeping it longer as it may cost me a fortune, maybe now is the time to sell it whilst it is still 100%.

I will be sad to see it go as its been such a good car.

 

Keep it. You know the car, all it's little quirks and who knows what you might buy next. There is no such thing as a 100% reliable car, they all need money spending on them, if you were to replace it you might just be buying in to more trouble.

I don't think the 2.2's suffer with as many injector issues as the 2.0's do anyway.

 

I don't mind spending money on the car when it needs it but I really don't want to be stuck with huge bills worth more than the car!

If I carry on with the regular maintenance etc do you think it could see the 200,000 mile mark?

 

Don't see why not, I've seen mk3 diesel ex-taxi mondeos with over 400k on them.
