Default How much to get a new head gasket fitted to a 4x4.

Just found out that the head gasket on my 4x4 sapphire is leaking. How much am I looking at to get it replaced, quoted £600-700 by the garage depending on the work needed seems pricey but I take it theres quite a bit of time involved.

I thought it was about right but its a bit of a bastard as i'm planning on selling the car. Might have to keep it after all.

Were those quotes including parts/head skim, etc... ? Seems steep for labour along, but then again, at £50 an hour, ten hours' labour is probably not far off

The quote was based on the last job that the garage did and was for the whole job including parts etc. Like you say, its probably not that bad considering the time that it will take.

so they dont know much about cossies??

IMO take it to an RS specialist and not a run of the mill garage!!

They worked on my car before and did a good job so I do trust them. They also had a couple of mark 1 or 2 escorts in the workshop and a nice cossie outside. The problem is i'm in Aberden and theres no RS specialists near by.

Was quoted £700 at castle performance when I had my 4x4,with all parts head skim etc.
Not a difficult job to be honest, only a 16v head at the end of the day
