cvh block
i saw someone trying to sell a s1 block claiming its thicker walled than a s2
dont know how true this is, only way to tell is cut them up/ check them?
i got a low mileage xr2i bottom end needing bearings..... FOC?
only thing i know from research is a xr2i efi head is the best one too use when going big power due too being the best for larger valves, but nothing said about blocks.
this guy says to use a s1 block with s2 crank and oil pump but dont know how usefull he is.

AFAIK They are all the same thickness, as Mark says a low milage NA block will have seen far less heat cycles and a lower temperature range so will be less fatigued and less likely to crack.
It may not be worth the money or hassle compared to a zetec build but what about engineered liners? Personally I wouldn't bother or know where to start but it's an option?

I was talking to someone the other day about cossie blocks, i know its a little off topic but touching back to the lining subject, this guy said having a cast block honed, lined and " nickel coated? " is the way forward. Expensive to do but will take huge bhp.
Anyone have any knowledge of this?

Should be easy enough to find an xr2i cvh to use. Try not to twist it again Stuart

I have a Series 1 block in my car, Karl told me at the time of the build that it is indeed a thicker walled than the series 2 block the car was originally fitted with, this may help you?
Although as previously mentioned ain't 400+hp enough!!!!??
Cheers Paul

Learn't something new today then, good to know for anyone building a big power CVH these days
I imagine they are very very rare, do you know if it's just S1 blocks or any MK3 escort 1.6 CVH block?

Sisters bf is a bit pedantic with Ford atuff and he said that series 1 blocks where different to the rest of the 1.6 cvh stuff.
And he also said that rs1600i's where built with ford "selected" parts (as near to perfect/the best produced)

I'd have thought you could. Dunno cost but I assume that's the process.
Would a n/a block be slightly stronger material or at least a denser material to help with the higher compression rather than low comp turbo block?
Daft question but I'll throw it out there

I'll have a look at the weekend Stu (the car is not at my home presently)
