Ok after weeks of thinking, posts asking about various cars etc ive finally made a decision(i think ) Talking with linz and i decided a nice BMW is rediculous to go to the sites it will get ruined. Linz dont want to use it for work...so thats that idea fooked. Been looking cosworth, but dont want an ornament in the garage. So, for years now ive been wanting a cossie powered mk1. Think thats the way im going, but once finished i dont want that to be an ornament, so a mk1 cossie road and track car is my plan.

Whati want to know is whats the score with track days? Not just the RSOC organised shows with tracks, but actually doing a couple of track days a month. I never been on track or been to a non rsoc day so need to know the ins and outs of it all if someone is bored and would explain for me.

What do you need to know?

First thing to bear in mind is the expense. Whilst the track day itself might be cheap, the extra costs can soon add up. A track day will be around the £100 minimum (usually), and then add costs for fuel on the day, and travelling there and back, and count int cost of rapid wear on brakes and tyres.

Most track days I'd budget a minimum of £200 (bare minimum)........

£95 in winter god knows in summer up to £200 no noise etc,donno cadwell park loads places ,you have no insurance so dont stuff it unless its rsoc days and you have ins with dominion then you stand for first £1500

Anyone goes/can go, cost varies from around £60 - £400, there is something on virtually everyday some where around the country. Requirements - well you need a car and a driving licence thats about it. It DOSN'T need to be modified in any way shape or form

Oh and for a decent cossied Mk1 your looking at about £20k

 

Lee, you're nearest track should have a website, start there.
IMHO, an E30 325i Bimmer would be a more suitable 'first' track car.

Cheers all. Nuts i will be building the car from a shell so the cost will be spread...personally i cant see it costing me 20k...but well see.... Probs be a couple of years to do im just getting info so i know what to expect...if i decide it aint for me, ill still be building the car but just for road!

Insurance.....they cover for track all year...or do you have to ring em and pay extra for the day specified?
