Default Main Stealer Servicing...how much?!!!

Not on my motor, but one of my colleagues has a 2013 Audi Q5 2.0 diesel. Basically, he's just come and told me how much he's paid for an oil service comprising of fresh oil, an oil filter and a new sump plug. The labour charge of 1.3 hours was £159.00 which include the oil change and visual checks, and the total bill came to £389.00!!!!!! So that means the oil, filter and plug cost £230.00!!! Now maybe I'm out of touch as to what is considered the norm for main dealer servicing and that engine probably has a big sump that takes 2 gallons worth of oil but fuck me £400 for an oil change just to have that all important stamp that some Audi fuckwit changed the oil for you. They also quoted him to change the pollen filter and quoted £60 just for the filter and labour was additional! Couldn't believe it.

Dread to think what brakes and other service parts might've cost!

How so?

Formula 1 charge £137
Kwikfit charge £145 for the same
Local Indipendant £190 +£59 Mot

But i get another VW stamp in the service book and cheaper by using my main dealer. I don't get the point your making?

Thats an inspection service i should of said, not just the oil and filter.

Naughty.

The fees shown are the maximum a test centre can charge and are not subject to VAT.

Cars (up to 8 passenger seats)£54.85

And the £190 is daft too.

Another classic case of looking into all the costs of owning a car before buying - although £400 is a touch on the dear side regardless of whether you've got the brass to buy a brand new Audi.

The old man's A8's seen some eye watering bills, worst quote I saw was to replace a sensor for the air con which was a full dash-out job and would have been the wrong side of £1500 just to replace a sensor. No wonder the service manager treated him like royalty

Tell him to find an Audi specialist. Cheaper than main dealer, will be using audi parts and will probably have had a long Audi main dealer training etc.

I'd rather a specialist than the 16yo apprentice at Audi working on my car!

Where abouts are you based?

I use the SEAT main dealer for my LEON, I think the service charges are reasonable

£249 for a major service
£129 for a minor service
£169 rear brakes pads/discs
£209 front brake pads/discs
£99 brake pads only

They are running an 'its fixed' servicing pricing to compete with the independents

We also have a choice of independent VAG specialists for VW/AUDI/SEAT/SKODA such as Prosport in Stockport & Awesome GTI

if your in the north west it maybe worth telling your mate to give the independents a bell

Dunno if this'll help fella but my local VW dealer do a service plan that you pay a direct debit each month which covers both servicing and MOT's and works out a shitload cheaper (especially whne you consider a major service was £350) - I was paying £20.41 per month so might be worth looking into as you get discount on parts & labour for anything outside servicing, and keep the factory service history.

Audi quoted me £610 for 60,000 mile service on my S4

Oil, oil filter, spark plugs and air filter!

When I questioned the price they informed me that it includes a 10% discount...

Specialist did the same job with genuine parts for £278 and it takes 9 litres of oil.

I couldn't afford to run a car if I wasn't able to self service.

I use dealer oil and parts and keep the receipts in the folder, I had a rubber stamp made to stamp the service book at home so that's also upto date.

Oil is actually cheaper to buy from dealer than Halfords and even Opie at times.

I also have Fully registered VAGCOM diagnostics on my laptop along with a few other programs.

servicing? whats that then?

air filter? oil filter? oil?

all from halfords for about £40 and then drop in a set of plugs every few years and job done isn't it?

unless you have a "new" "posh" motor in which case you are worried about the resale etc?

I used to pay £100 per hr in london for BMW dealer servicing!
If I can now I WILL do it my self.... This has saved me a fortune, the only time I have come a cropper was when I needed an extra part for my wife's daihatsu terios and was told 28 days for it to come in from Japan!!! I improvesed a work around for 3 weeks. I also try to do a bit of research and buy from the factory that makes them for the car manufacturer! this normally saves 25%. Also things like brake pads for the BMW pagid are less than half the price of brand BMW so shop around! also http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/ are euro parts sister company and can save you a lot too!

But I have to confess I Also seem to spend rather more than OEM on oil as it is worth it!

I've worked in Ford/BMW/VW/Hyundai main dealers all my working life.

I did an oil service, discs and pads all round and 4 tyres (Michelins) on an E60 M5 when at BMW main dealers.

The bill?

That'll be £3000 Sir.

Cars that have inherently expensive and exotic parts I can half understand but what's exotic and expensive about some oil?! Or some filters made up of recycled plastic and paper?!

So do I, bloody cheap considering you have to use ST/RS (Volvo) specific oil and plugs which makes up the most of that £200 before you start looking at tyres or labour!
