VW experts??? - 2006 VW Polo TDI Sport 100 vs. 130
Hi Guys,
I wasn't going to post this on here as its a Ford forum but then I thought as most of us haven't got Fords anymore lol theres probably one of you experts who can help me!!
I have also posted the same thread on a VW forum im a member of but haven't really had any technical responses.....
basically looking at buying a Polo Sport TDI 100 or 130 2006/2007 model.
The only differences I can see between the two from my investigations are the 130 obviously has 30 more BHP plus a 6 speed box.
Are there any other major differences between the two?
I have seen two cars im currently interested in both are up for £4000
1 - TDI Sport 130, 06 reg, 124k miles, one owner, FSH, black - dealer
2 - TDI Sport 100, 56 reg, 70k miles, 3 owners, FSH, grey (also has winter pack heated seats etc) - private
Now out of the 2 im kind of nosing towards the lower mileage 100 version but I know the rarer 130 model is quite desireable and the extra power and cog would be nice.
Any advice would be much appreciated as I really don't know which way to go.
Cheers
Mark

as you prob already know, these engines go forever if looked after
and even the 100bhp isn't to bad in a polo
get it mapped and it'll see 130bhp anyhow
unless you want the extra gear or the more powerful standard engine then the newer, lower mileage better spec lesser model sounds like potentialy the better car i think

Thanks for that mate.
From what I can gather on the older models say pre 2005 on the 130 the turbo and intercooler were bigger... I was just wondering if that was the case on the newer ones aswell?
as you say the 100 could easily be mapped to 130 if I chose to im just wondering if there are any major engine differences between the two.

tbh honest i'm not sure with the polo
i've got a 2004 audi a4 100bhp, i used to have a 130 model pretty much the same
i notice very little differance except for the gearbox
mine is mapped but otherwise totaly standard and pulls well for such a big heavy car
the only advise i would prob give is simply go see both cars and buy whichever is the better car
and dont take into account which 1 is the which, go with whatever 1 you like the most
as the mileage wont be a big deal if its a good 1, and the 130 might hold its value a little better,
but the 100bhp model seems like the better buy just now, so its a win win no matter which 1 you pick

Go for the 130 it has the better Garret turbo bigger injectors 6 speed bigger brakes
I've got a 2005 130 GT Sport running around 220bhp with a hybrid and bigger injectors front mount etc etc and it the best fun ever still returning 50mpg

There is a massive difference in the way they drive, the 130 is effortless in every way, cracking motor and with the 6 speed, awesome fuel economy too.
My vote - the 130, cant help on the costs though to buy.

for a 06 plate GT Sport (will have facelift front end) is it a 3 door?
£4k is a good price, at worse with that mileage it will need a clutch & flywheel soon so set aside £400 in parts and £200 labour
if it has been VW serviced has it been on longlife service schedules?
where has it done all its miles
double check wishbone bushes and back beam bushes if they haven't been replaced it would be first item on the to do list
fit the powerflex console bushes and standard front wishbone bushes
in the rear beam fit standard oem bushes not poly
also check if there is much movement in the gear lever when lifting the trottle pedal back on and off in a higher gears if so it'll need a new dogbone bush
once again not mega expensive, but if its at a dealer tell them to change it
lastly i'd also check the EGR valve, if was me buy a EGR delete kit, remove the inlet and de-coke it and fit a blanking plate on the turbo EGR side
the engine will feel more nimble and will gain a couple of MPG/BHP
after that you can go mad with hybrid turbo's and intercoolers, over 200bhp in 1 of these makes them feel very very quick indeed
here is a friends of mine 263bhp GT22 turbo Polo GT Sport
