Default Anyone into Merc 190e's?

Been looking at these for quite a while now and for some reason fancy getting one as a daily, they are silly cheap now and with classic insurance fook all for that!

Has anyone had any experience with these, which ones to walk away from etc, I presume being an original 'proper' merc the engines/boxes last forever etc. I'm aware that the rear arches rot like fook but thats about it! Not really after a cosworth one as they hold their money still, im talking about a 500/1000 smoker!!

I do like a nice 190E, never owned one, give it 10 years and you'll be paying 2.5 cos prices now for a 2.0 auto, there aint many about!

This looks a good smoker for the money, (edited to add, this ones white already so no need to wrap it )

guessing people have seen the evo 2 rep on ebay, was up privately this time last year for £4000, but the carb conversion put me off, considered buying and making it a full DTM rep, now at a dealers for 8K !

In the early ninety's I looked everywere for one and gave up in the end as I could not find one with the following had to have´s

White
2.6
Black Leather

Didn't seem to much to ask for or so I thought but even now that combination is almost impossible to find so would make a very rare and very nice car to which I would jump at even now

always preffered bmw's however I do think these were the best ever merc shape, when I was 16 a guy used to give me a lift to work in a black one with matt black alloys I loved it .they look proper retro now as well ,think there rep was damaged with the rust issues they suffered in the early noughties

Shit I've got set of those exact wheels (18's!) in my garage as we speak lol!!

I was expected to be shot down for liking them!! Admittedly i'd love a white one with black leather but as someone said above impossible to source. A friend 'owes' me a paintjob so getting it painted wouldn't be an issue (not really the right kind of car to wrap), plus I could probably source a leather interior from a newer merc to fit!!

hmmm tempted now! Are they mechanically ok or are there any weak points to look at?

Always wanted a go at a 2.6 manual and give it some track action! With a 3.0L engine conversion it will fly

Awesome cars, strong as an ox,lovely to drive and even as low as a 2.0l they go really well.go sideways nice even in auto format as well!!!
They do rust, check inner wings and arches but generally one of the best built cars out there.
Sold my mums old one for £50 after an mot fail.
Been stood 3 months, key in,turned a bit slow but fired up ok.
Drove it to the guy who bought it and aside from central locking everything still worked perfectly, wasn't even bad on fuel.
He put it up for sale on eBay and a Lithuanian bought it and drove it home.
It was seen back over here a few times, probably still going out there.
Tremendous cars, loved mine, seriously considered a 2.5diesel one earlier this year but the price was too rich.

Oh and the saying used to go" after a nuclear war the only things that will survive will be cockroaches and merc 190's".

Also a staple fixture of every war torn country still moving about ok. Always in gold like my mums old one!!!
