Default Gotech mfi pro?

Has anyone got a mapp to get my car running to give it a once over before taking it for mapping

Me and dubs44 are wiring up and doing the finishing touches today

Quick spec, 2.1 with vxr injectors, cos 4x4 t3, gotech mfi pro, grs cooler, dd valve springs, c20let pistons, stage2 rad, SO inlet

Any help would be great, and has anyone got a computer cable and software disc they want to sell? Or lend me

It's got a 1600cvh mapp on it but didn't want to take any chances?

You could try ringing jamsport and asking them to see if they could help you out

Surly when mapping a car you get what you pay for?

I've had live maps done for no more than £300.

Torque of the devil was £240

Power engineering £300

Boost monkeys who are doing it next have quoted £250

All of this was on megasquirt, which lets face it, trumps gotech in every respect.

I know Jamie and I know he will sort me out, he's a good lad, I was just hoping I could just having it running correctly before taking it as they are 100 miles each way for me, so just want to book in, get mapped and go with less chances of problems

Plus I know the gotech is differcult to mapp hence not a lot of people wanting to use it, so what Jamie quoted me sounds pretty good

How much does you full conversion cost with complete loom, ecu, relays, plugs, mapp ect? Just want to compair?

So far mine is wired up with correct braided loom and mfi pro ecu with 3 bar mapp sensor and launch set up and owes me £275 so with mapping its still a cheap conversion

I looked into ofam as I was running ofab but my loom was shot so with the £389.99 + upgrades and loom repaired it would have cost me a lot more, which is a shame but I'm chuffed with my set up and can't wait to get it mapped

Ecu was £150 second hand. Soldered a plug onto my original first time round but have since replaced with a new loom for £70 I think. £60 for a bigger map sensor and boost control. Plus mapping as stated. All the original car relays and bits were used as they didn't need changing.

Sounds good, buying a second hand unit saves so much money

But I couldn't buy a ms ecu second hand unless there was proof it was built by a professional, too many DIY guys messing them up

What car is it on?

No guarantees buying from so called pro's, I've had trouble with mine, it was built wrong, have now found the boost control wasn't added and the fan control looks to have been wired in wrong. But extra efi say they have never made a mistake.

Surprises me! But then there was some dodgy work done on mine by james murray too but boost monkeys took care of fixing other peoples mistakes for free, and upgrading mine. Top bloke!

Thought so

I got a problem anyway, it was off a dizzy powered 1600cvh and I've adapted the loom following the gotech user manual but I have no spark?

There's power at the coil pack and fuel pump is priming, but no fuel in cyclinders and no spark

I'm getting a power probe tonight to see if there is the pulse to it all

It can be calibrated to work with any including standard but if its set up for a different trigger would that cause no spark?

With the gotech it's all programable, it's a multi function ecu, for upto 6 cyclinder and can run dizzy or coil pack

I need to check for pulse at the coil pack and injectors tomorrow I guess

Your correct, it needs a chip/ software change, so I will make a trip to see Jamie this week and get a base mapp while I'm there

Then it's just sort gearbox and brakes and get it too him for mapping

Look on the sticker on top of the Ecu. It will say 60-2, 32-1, MOD. Which one is marked? It refers to the chip inside the Ecu, nothing to do with software settings mate

It should be 32-1 if it's going to work on a ford

How much mapping are you getting for your £250 out of interest? Cold Start? Warm Start? Transient? Idle control? Boost control?

even better than that........ the guide i down loaded didnt say anything about grounding the ecu except the ground for the relay to power it........

so.................

i read a few other models of gotech ecu manuals and found that i hadnt earthed the ecu lol, theres two grounds that go straight to the battery and are missing so im going to have to make them up lol

ive not tried it yet but must be something along those lines, to be honest dubs44 on here has been a great help and without him i would have given up.......

it was something karlos said that made me and dubs think and pointed to the problem, the manual i downloaded was missing that vital information about the grounds

Thanks for the comments guys, I have seen some very 'interesting' approaches to ecu assembly even from the 'pros'.... every one make mistakes but thats what quality systems are there for. Every thing we do gets fully tested and signed off before release and normally this is done by Mike (so someone else tests your work), its backed up further by a year warranty. This has eliminated faulty items being sent out to clients, and is something imo every company producing things (little or large) should do.

Hey Rick long time no speak.

For us £250 is a subsidised price. We don't mind making the mapping fairly cheap as 9/10 we have already supplied the ecu. Further more because we only map pretty select models the cold start, warm up and idle control is 99% taken care of by the base maps we have made for various engine specs. Most only need a few tweaks on the day. Cold start for instance as you know doesn't need to be OEM perfect to work well if you don't care too much about emissions on warm up.

Boost control is setup on the dyno, as is the transient fueling both of which are infenintley simpler on the dyno. Accel enrich for instance takes 10 mins, on the road this can take a whole session, boost control takes a few pulls and then some road testing to confirm.

Leaving the majority of the tuning session to power tuning an part throttle tuning.

To be totally honest 80% of the people that see us have already done the low RPM off boost tuning as well as some on boost tuning, and some do a really good job! Which gives us loads of time to sort out the ign advance tuning etc, this definitely cuts the time an improves the results!

Recently however we did a skyline, we didn't have any base maps for it so it took 2-3 days (on and off) to get to a standard I was happy with, and thats with a further dyno session to go

However (mildly off topic ) the chap with the skyline engine races competitively, with the new ecu and a map which is half way done (low boost) he has already knocked over 1s off his last years best time which im chuffed to bits about!

However we certainly didn't charge £250 for that, so I guess the price charged really reflects the company niche and the availability of varied base maps to start from.

Rob,
