I am looking at getting an ST24, as I have been offered one for peanuts.
It is a 98 model, 205k on the clock. I am thinking of declaring SORN, checking under the kit for crusty bits, and if it is fairly solid then give it some cheapish mods and track it next year.

Any suggestions to what I should look out for/what mods I should do? I would like to keep it road legal but I think it's days of being a daily hack are over.

 

Baffled sump as they can suffer from oil surge. Better pads, just about all you need.
Oh and lots of jerry cans of fuel.
