Default Tdci 130 cam sensor

hi all. New to Mondeo ownership. I now this will be old news now but I've just swapped my old black cam sensor for the new grey one on my 53 plate tdci 130 mondeo I just bought with running issues. Seems to have sorted it. But I am being strongly advised to cut off the plug and replace it with a new one! Is this correct? There's nothing wrong with the original. Thanks in advance for any help given.

I wouldn't bother unless you have any more issues. It's the sensor that causes problems, rather than the wiring in most cases.

It was on the Ford TSB to replace the multiplug, but most don't bother. In some cases when these first started playing up, it was advised (By Ford technical) to change the 5v reference feed to the sensor to a 12v to get a stronger CMP signal. Haven't needed to do that for a while though.

The multiplugs are a ridiculous price IIRC too!

Hi leep27
Can I ask what sort of issues you were experiencing?

Hi yeah. Well I've only owned it a fortnight. Bought it being told it cut out after 10 mins and wouldn't restart till 10/15 mins had passed and then only ran for 10 mins again. He assumed it was injectors I had a friend put it on a diagnostics and threw up cam sensor. Common fault so I've read, It was the black one. Bought a grey one from ford cleared any ecu faults and touch wood. Seems to be fine now. Only paid £350 for it. 53 plate 93k. Seemed rude not to.

Cheap car, yes classic symptoms of cam sensor.

Keep a few quid aside for when the injectors do fail. Very common.
