Default Discs and pads for 400bhp?

Hello peeps,

What std size discs and pads are you guys using for around 400bhp? Ive gone for 2wd four pots up front and 4x4 vented on the ass end.

I was thinking National Sport discs and DS pads. Seems to be what the search is bringing up.

cheers guys.

Discs etc sound good but not a fan of the DS pads as they have warped the discs on every car I have ever used them on,I now use Mintex as never had a problem with them.

All depends on how you are going to use them rather than how much BHP you have.
But since fitting Carbone Lorraine RC6's i've never looked back awesome stopping power they work from cold and do not fade and I gave them a good beating at RS National Day on slicks and couldn't get them to fade.

For a cheap 330mm conversion you can use focus rs discs and calipers with caliper brackets. My car was stg3 and the standard brakes( grooved discs, ds pads) were fine but once I had bigger turbo and injectors fitted the standard brakes were struggling round snetterton circuit. My next time on track I had hi spec 2 piece discs 315mm, 4pots and never had any fading issues all day

Kelly has them on her focus rs and I wish I'd never bought them they are very noisy and tend to make a wurring noise when driven fast.

Good info, fuck them! I think my going to just get some Ferodo Premium discs and pads from my local motor factors and see how i get on. I can always grab some DS2500 if they are not up to the job.

Copied from my thread bud!

Ordered my front brakes this week too. Really wanted 330mm AP's but they are mega bucks so i have decided to go with the 324mm reyland grooved focus rs discs and some bmw e38 4 pot brembos from a guy on ebay who sells them with brackets for cossie conversion.

Discs:

Calipers:

screen shot in windows

The discs are new and calipers fully rebuilt, painted with new pads and it all cost me £470 delivered so i thought a good kit for that considering the AP's are £1200ish

As long as there not carpisport brackets they normally don't fit well.
Also be aware these will only fit under certain types of 17" wheel.

I'd be going for national discs and ds pads on mine when I replace them as i'm on std wheels

You will be very lucky but tbh i'd say no they won't as the std set up only just fits with spacers

Yeah i looked at this, tbh i dont see and extra 40mm making a lot of difference providing std 4 pots are working correctly. After a lot of reading up there seem to be a lot of mixed reviews. Obviously AP's are the way forward, but a lot of people are using std brakes with decent discs and pads for regular track day use, some even use cheap discs and decent pads.

I dont know........... i've got to make put my mind cos the p100 will be in a roll this week.

Im not 100% sure to be honest! I know that you need 17s with this setup but have not tried yet.

Im going for 17" comp th2s but going to roll arches completely first just incase I need spacers!

Go with the standard then bud and if its no good change it. I have gone with this cause they should be pretty good and look nicer than standard! not that I will really see them under the comps

Sure it wasn't a 4x4 as the hubs are different than a 2wd?

I had a kit I made up with focus calipers and 324 discs for my Cortina using 18" focus wheels my mate then had them off me for his capri running 17"s which only just fitted.

Good luck

I was just saying on another thread, changing calipers can be a ball ache as i found out on my ERST. Spacers, difference in disc thickness etc etc throws things out. Wheels can rub, calipers can fail without spacers.

Ill going to stick with std, if they are shit ill come and have a go in yours and make up my mind that way
