Supercharging a NA Cosworth YB
Evening chaps,
Been lurking here for a little while, and wondered if any of you could offer some views/expertise on whether it's feasible to supercharge a NA YB?
Basically the situation is this: I run a nicely spec'd NA YB, mated to twin 45's, in a Westfield and it really suits the car. The power delivery, the noise, the overall performance... it's all good.
But, and I know a lot of you on here "get it", you always get to a point where you think a bit more power would be interesting.
I don't want to do an engine transplant for something newer - I like the fact that the Cossie is, well, a Cosworth with everything that goes with that if you grew up in the 80s/90s. Neither do I want to change for a YBT - in a car that light, the power delivery needs to be immediate and progressive. So, the idea of supercharging appeals - especially if I can use one with a clutch mechanism in order to run it selectively. Would also prefer to avoid going down the fuel injection route if possible as I don't get on well with ECUs.
So far I've been able to find a bit of information on supercharging Pintos and modern Fords, but nothing really about YBs (understandably most FI focusses on turbos). Just wondered, does anyone on here know if/where it's been done...? If so, any ideas on the power levels that can be achieved, and tips on how to do it would be really appreciated.
(I'm already reckoning on having to change the Type 9 for something else - not decided what yet)
Thanks in advance!
