Default Rwd Fiesta

My fiesta is a mk2 xr2 which is currently being converted to rwd and using a 1600cc zetec engine. Its using a type 9 sierra gearbox, escort mk2 back axle but converted to 5 link and to have coil overs. The bulkhead has been modifyed to take the zetec engine and a transmission tunnel has been fitted. It has escort mk2 inner wings and chassis rails. A mk1 fiesta dash. Four link body mountings were cut out of a friends group 4 escort after he stuffed it into a tree. A friend of mine knows alot about tuning engines and he recons he can get about 130bhp out of a 1600 zetec for not a lot of cash. Hes on about using an 1800 inlet cam and keeping the 1600 exhaust cam. Dont know why Im just going to do what he says. On the inlet side Im using an early 1800 mainfold and injectors, but the ecu, throttle body and engine loom are from an efi xr2i.The fuel pressure is also going to be raised.

nice pne m8 for 130 bhp think you will need to use rs1800 bits but looks like it will be fun keep the picks coming

130Bhp should be good RWD so maybe get more under there later on with more mods.

I got a Mk1 1740 on 40's so looking at around 140Bhp but FWD is hard to get the power down

That will be quality when finished mate. I had a similer idea earlier this year but wasn't confident enough to do it myself, and i think something like that would cost a fortune to have done for you. Keep us posted on how its going.

Thats just mad

I did wonder why you would want to go 1.6 Zetec but i guess with it being such a small car and with RWD you don't want too much!

Looking good mate

Im only using a 1600 to keep it in a lower class for rallying and I got the engine for free (due to having no compression, which was only the head gasket).
Got the car with the inner wings allready fitted Ive had to do the rest, which has been a nightmare. If your on about doing this conversion put lots of time aside cos you'll need it trust me.
Ive spent about a grand on it and ive worked it out that it will stand me at about 3 grand finished.

mate looks excelltent!!!!!!!

Id love to have a RWD mk3 Hope the project goes well..

but you will have to be a serious miricle worker to get a 1600 zetec to 130bhp

Its not the best zetec engine unfortunatly

Ive now got a 2litre zetec to go into the fiesta, but all work has had to stop as my mk3 xr3i needs a rebuild. even thats had to go on hold as im waiting for my welder to be repaired.

Hi, I'm also starting to do the same but I'm thinking of using cossie rear diffs etc. Are you linking the back using mk 2 5 link kit and welding in the new coilover turrets? You've obviously had a good think about this, is it easier to 5 or 6 link (and an English axle I presume)it than cossie diff and wishbones etc?
Also , With a large transmission tunnel can you leave the steering rack in the original place?I'm using a bias pedal box from my mk2 so I've got no worries about the servo etc.
I could of had for free a few months ago a Gartrac G3 shell from a mate and I could of just chopped it up and welded it underneath.Gutted
If you could let us know some of the above I'd appreciate it, Cheers
Andy

i thought about using a cossie diff, but to keep the wheels in the arches ive five linked an english axle.

where the rack runs is where the gearbox sits so mines got escort mk2 inner wings, cross member and rack.

I've just sold one of them with an LSD for £350, gutted. Cheers, the 5 link route does seem easier. Thanks, Andy
