Default have i brought a nail ?

hi all I bought a 2005 55reg focus st3 last week, and within a day the engine management light came on, I hade a diagnostics done 2 faults came up, first code was p0087, I think the second code he give was wrong, it was p2718, think it was ment to be p2178, he cleared the codes but light came back on nearly stairght away, I also think it went into limp mode as the was very little boost, I took the kam fuse out for half hour and the light went out and was boosting ok, drove 10 miles today light came back on, my m8 diagnose it again tonite and 1 fault code come up p0087 the car also felt lumpy today when idling, has any1 any advice what to change or check first?, fuel filter if it has 1 ? Petrol pump/relay? Pressure pump sensor ?, I'm totally skink after buying it and don't want to change any parts that don't need changing, if any 1 has any advice what to do or try first I'd really apreatate it, thanks in advanced.

Found this answer through Google, hope it helps:

P0087 is fuel rail pressure is too low
P2178 is system too rich off idle
P2127 is possible issue with the powertrain control module

So I'd 1st replace the fuel filter if you haven't already and also check over the electrical connections to the fuel pump , also consider replacing the fuel pump relay and check that its fuse isn't cracked or corroded

If this checks out OK then use a mechanical pressure gauge to measure the actual fuel pressure and confirm that it is low or not

let me know what you find

You are right, they don't have a fuel filter! Certainly could be the fuel pressure regulator or the pump itself.

I know nothing about the ST but that suprises me, do they have an in tank filter that you never have to change ???

Its things like this that puts me off a modern car , to many bloody sensors. Rs turbo all day everyday for ease I say . but im guessin its about reliability

there is no fuel filter on any mk2 focus, stupid really! I guess there is some sort of gauze in the pump itself, not too sure what would happen if it blocks!
