Default Mk5 Fiesta Zetec-S Overheating

Hey guys,

I'm totally stumped by whats up with my car.... The good news - I can now run the car with the heaters on full heat and full power...

So far I have replaced the following:
HCV - today
Thermostat - yesterday
Some Temperature Sensor - saturday

Next up:
Water pump

I'm still overheating with no fans on or on cool setting... I just can't get my head around it anymore??

I've replaced the more common fault - HCV.... Most common fix..

Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm considering chucking the car at Ford and saying fix this please

Please help/advise me!

My Car:

Mileage: 109k

It appears someone has messed around with the engine at some point...
The thermostat housing should have 4 bolts - yet 1 had been overtightened and snapped - so we sealed with Some blue gel/gunk stuff (no leaks - YAY)

Someone has removed the rocker cover at some point - over tigethened another bolt and snapped 1 of the 4 bolts - sorted the leak with silicon/sealant.

My mate (a mechanic) reckons someone has been messing/replaced the Head Gasket at some point...

I thought I got a bargain here - But it's seriously driving me mad - I'm actually losing sleep over the costs of getting it all sorted.... I don't want to get rid of the car - it's not an option... I've modified it to my liking (It was pretty much standard when I got it)

Please advise me :'( So I can get a good nights sleep!!

Blocked rad? Airlock? If the HG hasn't been done right that could cause overheating...

I've completely drained the system mate, I even stuck a hose pipe in the one end of the radiator and it freely flowed out of the other end (top)

HG - That's what my mate said too, However he advised water pump first

However - I do hear the occasional gargle/gurgling from the engine bay randomly

But the oil is completely normal (fresh oil when cam belt was done and the leak from the rocker cover was sorted)

No horrible smells etc

Airlock - I've checked the pipes (squeezed and pumped etc)

However, the reason I'm tackling the water pump next - is because when I drained the system earlier to do the HCV, The return pipe to the water tank wasnt flowing nicely - it was literally dripping through...

If you look at the rad from the front - the lower pipe on the left is never as hot as the top on the right (however it is MUCH warmer now I've replaced the HCV)

HeadGasket - the car isn't losing water or anything either :S

Try the water pump as you said, then get a sniff test done to see if it's HG.

Could be worse mate, my mk5 zs in my sig started burning oil 2 weeks after I bought it and ended up needing a replacement engine! Good to hear it's sorted now.

Lol I sent mine to get the stems done and got a phone call a week later letting me know it was timed wrong and now it's going to need a new head. On the Zetec s the bottom is like a rock but the heads are a little flakey. If they over heat once it's all new gaskets, seals etc.

I'm now debating doing the bottom as well. It's on 100k but it's still running great at that end. One things for sure it's not being done there.

The SE's are actually known to have a weaker bottom end actually, the heads are very good.
