Is the ford fiesta mk5 a future classic in the making? i hear a lot people say they consider it the best in the series and now many of them are getting lost to rust, will this make the ones that are kept well a future classic?

 

If it does il be fully rebuilding mine one day lol I love mine, can't fault it.

 

wow that a picture of yours? yeah i got same but mine the ford fiesta "fun" model :/ is that worst one u can have? 1.299 and yeah no alloys, its sliver, got my friend to fix all body work as rear arches were rusting, coming up to 80,000 now on the clock had to have clutch replace. anything i should be aware of now with this old model? i love mine to. always feel maybe in time i get some alloys and a better engine put in but dunno if its possible on fun model :/ such a bizzar name and you dont hear much of this model either

 

The mk5 ZS is the last fiesta made with what I call character, as mk6 onwards are very bland like any other car even if technology is better, like any sporty themed ford the older they get the more attractive they become and prices increase as a result

I've owned it 3 and a half year and the other half had it 3 year so its been well looked after. I can honestly say all I've had to replace on mine due to age is rusted flexi exhaust, the power steering pipe due to the cooling pipe being rusty sitting just below the radiator and another passenger caliper as the old one seized. It's never let me down so I'm hoping to keep it some time.

 

nice nice i put some photos of mine up later, my mate helped redo my wheel arches as they were starting to rust on mine, looks so much better now there redone I really like this car because there so nice to drive, I cannot stand the look of the newer cars they are to bulky and the handling doesn't feel as good i swear mk5 is the best one

 

If they're not new arches welded in they'll just keep bubbling again. Need new arches welded in. The new fiestas look to much like a punto so they look shite now. I've always loved the the xr2's and 2i's but I'm happy with the mk5

 

I enjoy driving my zs as it puts a smile on my face as it reminds me so much of a classic mini but with all the extras like A/C and heated screens and mirrors etc

 

yeah sadly it was just a patch job, we did remove a lot the rust though it wasnt to bad the rust we caught it quite early, you reckon it will 100% sure bubble up again? i guess if it does i will have to look into fibre glass replacement arches.

 

All rust comes back eventually mate, it needs cutting out completely. You'll be best getting new arches welded in and sealed then you'll never have the rust issue. It'll cost more repairing all the time.

this is my ford mk5 its not as great as your cars but its my first car still love to put alloys on once my insurance drops further. any advice with that? at the mo its non alloy as its a ford fietsa fun model most basic u can get sadly lol 1.299 as well ha

 

It looks canny, I had a mk4 1.3 before the Zetec-S. it looks like it has Zetec-S alloys on. I'm sure if you put a set of ford 15" alloys on your insurance probablys won't really change. If it was me id put some on and if anything did happen hopefully nothing would come of it as they're ford wheels and not aftermarket

 

yeah, the hub cap in these are alloy look, in day light can tell thou 13inch wheels look small, yeah not sure how much info the insurance companys have on the car, not like they come and see it. I heard some people say always a risk it could void it. I feel same as you, end of the day there just wheels and alloys would most likely make it safer drive if anything

i hear a lot of people talk about puma conversion there ford fiesta, how easy is that? can it be done to any mk5 fiesta or just the zetec model? saw a puma for sale for 300quid was tempted to get it and store it for later as it had alloys as well prob be cheaper then getting all the parts seperate. he was selling it cheap as the body work had rusted to bits

As above. The puma is exactly the same as the mk4-5 fiesta, all parts fit. I'd get it bought and strip it for parts, you'll make a canny bit back.

 

the only thing is how will this work with the insurance if you mod a car? new engine etc ? my fiesta not a zetek just standard mk5. also how safe is it putting such a powerful engine inside? would i need body kit as well? i dont wanna like flip over lol!

 

It's not a massive sized engine but you will need to use the Zetec-S suspension atleast as its used for the 1.6 and 1.7 engine. The shell is the same so its mainly suspension, bushes and brakes that will need upgraded. Get coilovers though when you can afford them as they're best for handling.

 

Couldn't agree more! Had a mk5 zs years ago, went to a mk6 st and other faster car. Bought a mk5 zs last August as a track car and it handles like a dream!





Like it so much, was thinking about one as a run around!

for it to be a future classic think there needs to be a special model of some form ive had a few zetec's and think there brilliant cars

 

i also think it can happen if the car gets to 25yrs old and is a rare to see them, my mum got BMW 3 series 1989 coming up to 24yrs old now all body work was redone a couple of years ago so looks like new but dont see these cars really now only on rare occasions, just wondered if this ford could go same way in another 10yrs when a lot of them will get to 25yrs

Cheers lads. I'm not sure how low but its quite a bit lower than 60mm and the coilovers arnt all the way down. I noticed Zsoc was playing up sometime last week.

Definatly a future Classic. I love mine, and think I will be its last owner. When I do upgrade to somthing bigger and with RS on the back I will proberly track it as its such a fun car to drive.

 

I believe they will be, perhaps not as much so as an RS Turbo, but if someone has a few quid free, a garage and a carcoon and can get a super clean low mileage ZS, I cant see you losing money. As much as I love my Focus CC it's not even close to the car my MK5 was. A few years ago I would have said I would have loved a wee XR2 tucked away in the garage, not now, someday I will have a minty minty ZS sitting in a bubble waiting for a nice summers day to put that smile on my face that only way the best Fiesta ever made can

 

The mk5 is the best looking fiesta IMO and the last small fiesta.

 

Me and the wife had a mk5 fiesta 1.25 ghia and it was a cracking car. Shame the back arches were rotton. We had this car for about 5 years and it went everywhere. It was 100% reliable apart from a faulty coil pack.

 

What size spacers do you have on that black mk5 fiesta?

 

Doesn't have spacers on, wheels were 8J

 

8j wheels and a et of 25 means they more than fill the arches, perfect for the rear but too wide at the front if honest

 

That's why the tyres are stretched so they sit nicely then the arch kit makes them sit flush

 

I know what you mean shaun perfect match for me would be escos rears and 7j fronts as not a fan of stretched tyres as I had them on my FRST and I hated the way it handled especially in the snow lol

 

Mine handled mint, I had a good go on roads and roundabouts and it stuck to the road, couldn't fault the handling. It depends on the tyres you're using aswell. All 4 on mine were toyo proxies and mint tread on them and not much body roll at all. Yours looks nice but would've tried going a bit lower lol
