Resetting ecu on a mk6 escort?! Procedure?
Hi
Just changed the idle speed control valve on my mk6 1.6 escort. I've had the battery disconnected for approving tell 4 hours now? Can anyone tell me the correct procedure for resetting the ecu

I've always left mine disconnected overnight when I've done it
After reconnecting it, just start the car and let it run until the idling 'levels out', this could be from a few minutes to twenty minutes
Once the idling's at normal and steady take it for a good drive right through the rev ranges in all the gears (careful where ya do that!)
Where I live I can make a thirty mile round trip through a busy town which takes you onto an open mountain road about 12 miles long and that brings you to a motorway which takes me back home
Something like that's ideal because of the different types of driving and the opportunity to 'give it some stick'

This seems to be a huge debate on all the forums! Couldn't find a concrete answer anywhere. The way I did it in the end was (don't know if it worked)
- disconnected battery for 4 hours
- depressed brake pedal to kill any residual power left in ecu
- removed engine managment fuse, as I couldn't find a KAM one( removed for 15 mins)
-reconnected and let idle for 20 mins.
- drove on a variety of different roads.
The conclusion was that I had very poor idle when I stopped at lights initially after the new iscv. I no longer have the poor idle at lights, leading me to believe the ecu has accepted the new iscv.
I do have a new issue though since the reset and iscv change. When I start the car I have extremely erratic idle. Idle has never been an issue with the car, I unplugged the maf and the car ran perfectly. So it appears now the issue was a mixture of the maf and iscv.
Be good to get a definitive guide for resetting the ecu though!

The way I said IS the way to do it, and the reason I leave it overnight is to be absolutely sure the ecu has lost ALL it's charge, no need for removing fuses etc though some remove fuses instead of disconnecting the battery. No need to do both
The car will continue to relearn values for a week or so depending how often/far it's driven
When you initially started the car did you let the idle settle down to normal before driving it? Perhaps you needed to leave it disconnected longer? Was it a new or second-hand icv? (new ones are cheap as chips) Did you fit the gasket properly? (they can be dead awkward if you haven't taken off the inlet manifold to fit them)
I think it's pretty unusual for the maf to 'die' in these so it might be worth trying it again but leave it for more than four hours
If you still have the same issue and think it's maf related there's usually a maf or two for them on ebay fairly cheap
