I've always left mine disconnected overnight when I've done it
After reconnecting it, just start the car and let it run until the idling 'levels out', this could be from a few minutes to twenty minutes
Once the idling's at normal and steady take it for a good drive right through the rev ranges in all the gears (careful where ya do that!)
Where I live I can make a thirty mile round trip through a busy town which takes you onto an open mountain road about 12 miles long and that brings you to a motorway which takes me back home
Something like that's ideal because of the different types of driving and the opportunity to 'give it some stick'
