Hi I have a 1987 ford capri and I got I few plans for it one of which is black and silver number plates. So how old does your car have to be to be allowed these ???
I have the proper "stamped" black n silver plates on my purple mk2 escort, its a 76 reg and has passed its MOT with them on, been too a dozen shows and the plates haven't been mentioned by anyone, i even train with half a dozen coppers and they've never mentioned them, but then again, cause its an old car they don't look out of place, more modern stuff??? I think it depends on the colour, the white one above doesn't suit black plates imo, but each to their own.
Not sure if its true or not but I did hear if your car does not have a age related plate ( say something like 123 abc ) then you can run black and silver plates ,
Like I said tho , I don't know if its true or not
depends if a copper knows the law exactly. Unless youre an anal freak, most coppers wont remember the exact details of all the laws word for word.
So most coppers probably only remember that the black and silver plates are only legal on old cars from the 70's or so. That means if your car looks old you might get away with it.
You will get a fine, only a matter of time. I got caught with German plate on mine on my way to DVLA office to put my private plate on. Produced all my papers for plate swap and the fucker still issued me with the ticket.
