Hi guys i currently own a mk4 xr3i cabby which i want to update. I have a 1.8 zetec blacktop from mondeo that id like to fit i have found the mount adaptor plate on ebay but does anyone have any ideas which gearbox i need due to the rear mounted starter motor on zetec and the mounts. Thankyou

 

escort zetec with cable speedo, a silvertop would fit easier.

With the blacktop you will need a aux belt diverter bracket and pulley, alternator lowering bracket, you could cut the sump and use your existing gearbox.

Im currently 3/4 through the same conversion using a turbo. Have a look for karlos g guide on here.

 

use the silver top sump oil pick up pipe and you use your gearbox use a reno clio wiiliams 2.0 16v oil filter

 

why? the blacktop sump is better.

Had this setup, works with a BC or IB5 box

 

I've just done my 90 spec 3i and I used an escort alloy sump and dip stick and had some spacers made up to use the windage tray from an escort if u search the net there's loads of sites with how 2s on there telling u how to do everything mate

 

if he wants to use his box silvertop sump front starter ive used many standard boxes over the years from 1.3 ohv 5 speed to s1 s2 lsd they all can hack it
ive done bout 20 odd of these conversions never had a comeback yet and my rs1600i rep zetec on 45s has xr3i box in my escort mk3 4 door zetec on 40s and 100bhp shot of nitrous works fine on a 1.6 ghia box ask ade brannon off fastford what it goes like as he crashed it at my photo shoot

 

But the ib5 and bc will fit to a blacktop, and the front starter fits fine.

 

As above the black top sump is fine with both BC and IB5 front (grind a little bit off) or rear starter.
Saves sourcing a silver top one and swapping over.
