excessive smoke and lack of power accompanied by loud wooshing noise??
Hi guys,
This is my first post, I have a Mondeo 20. tdci zetec hatch with 160k on the clock, it has been an absolute legend of a car requiring very little major work, just routine servicing and an alternator.
Recently I have noticed that it has started emitting plumes of black/blue smoke - not entirely sure but def not white! from the exhaust at the boost phase of the turbo. Its also way way down on power, I did notice when driving down a country lane with the windows open a rather loud whooshing noise if you floor it in third or fourth gear - ie less engine noise higher up the gears. sounds like a load of air is escaping - could this be linked to lack of performance?
Accompanying this fault, when you eventually get cat up to 60/70 on the mway as long as you have foot on the throttle its fine. When you lift off its lumpy and jumpy - hesitant, not at all right.
Can anybody help me to diagnose the possible fault based on these symptoms? I am quite handy and can turn my hand to most jobs that need doing - I begrudge giving my hard earned to a garage, when I could do the job myself
Thanks in anticipation for anybody's help - I love this car and really hope that its repair is possible/economical.
Cheers

100% split boost hose. 90% it'll be the hose that runs between the intercooler and the EGR valve on the front left of the engine. DON'T buy one from Ford, They're up to Ł90 and will go again. Get one of the silicone ones off Ebay instead. Fairly straightforward DIY job, if a little fiddly. Use some washing up liquid to help get the new hose on.
