Default Application pads (wet or dry)

Just wondering I've always applied waxes/polishes etc with a clean dry app pad but just see someone outside applying turtle wax with a damp/wet cloth is this the right way to do it or shall I go outside and laugh (sorry but it seams strange to apply a water protected liquid with water?)
Cheers

Depends what polish or wax your using,a swissvax for example is very oily so i just use a dry swissvax cotton applicator
Autogylm HD wax is best when using a damp applicator so is SRP.
