Default Project Tigger! Update 5/6/13 finished and ready for Croft this weekend

Some of you may recognise "Tigger" those of you going to Croft for the Durham Derbyshire RSOC show over the last 10 years certaily will!
Tigger as he is affectionetly known has give his owner andy great service as a cheap reliable track car over them last 10 years but it was in dire need of some love and care!
This is where I come into it, Andy, me and a couple of friends have rented a unit for many years to store our race/track cars in in fact tigger was the reason I bought my own XR4x4 race car in the first place!

Tigger is fitted with a warmed on 2.9 V6 12V and kept up with my race car when it was fitted with it's cosworth 24V so it's quick enough for most.
My race car is out of action this year as it gets rebuilt so I was without a track car for the croft rsoc show in June, Andy works away and had no time to fix tigger so I said I would do it and we will share the driving, win win all round.

There is a large list of parts to go on the car some of them spares my own race car
909 group A/N coilovers, 4x4 cos ARB with poly bushes, new exhaust, new petrol tank (as the one on is leaking) alarm removal, cosworth 4x4 brakes.

Today I started with the suspension mods

Coilovers fitted

ARB and poly bushes done

pile of exhaust bits!

Will be back down the unit tommorow fitting the exhaust then it's onto the tank

steve

got some more done on the car started by cleaning and painting the new 4x4 cosworth calipers that are going on the car

started by removing the various alarms and immobilisers complete with nest of wires that were on the car

Today I repaired the seat mounts that were rotton on both sides

All welded up

Also found this
yes that is a cutting disc used as a washer on a seat belt mount!!

Test fitted the calipers on the car to check wheel clearence and size up the spacers need to mount the caliper brackets

seats and harness refitted

will get some more done next week

I like it but it's just not orange enough to be a Tigger

Cool motor! I'm sure it punches above its weight against modern cars
What else have you got planned for it?

Hoping to be there for Croft so i'll come and say hello if I see the car, I'm bboked on track but on the reserve list, and my car is still in bits at the moment

think they are spax shocks and lowered springs on the front
haven't done the coilovers on the back yet as I need to mod the arms first

Bit of an update, spent a few days on the car recently, got the front brakes fitted after the a local machine shop made the spacers up for me and luckily my dad had measured it correctly!
Today me and tiggers owner Andy changed the petrol tank as the one on the car had a lead half way up for about 5 years! We got a spare tank off our mate Rob who has a fair few sierra spares laid around..
But disaster struck when a banjo onto the fuel filter snapped in my hands
better snapping there than on track tho, A quick call to rob soon had him heading over with a spare banjo and pipe.

We had to grind off a few bolts to get the tank off andy found a noval way to stop the sparks burning his head its an old headrest cover lol
(oh and yes thats my race car under all them covers looking rather neglected! )

The rollover valve bracket had snapped so in true track day style we tie wrapped it, might look at a better solution.

we then tried bleeding the brakes which is proving to be a pain, we just can't seem to get rid of a long pedal travel :dunno:
not much left to do now to be ready for croft

Done the tank on mine last week, 2 out of 3 bolts were seized. Luckily the old tank was so rusty it just pulled away!
Might have a buyer for mine, so wont be needing any suspension.

Finally finished Tigger yesterday ready for croft this weekend, Got 2 toyo 888's to get put on the rims on Saturday morning and then its off to croft to try out all my hard work!
The rear brake calipers were siezed so I stripped /checked and painted my spare ones.

I also fitted new flexi hoses and a handbrake cable ( the one on the car was also seized) that I had lying round the unit along with new pads

Next I moved the electric window switches from around the gearstick( as they were just lying there getting in the way) into a panel in the dash I made.

Next I moved the crash switch to just behind the seat so that the driver can reach it from his seat ( hitting a kerb on track can flick the switch so reseting with out getting out of the car is a must !)

The seat covers were removed to reveal 2 pretty mint saph cos recaro's

Last weekend Tiggers owner Andy gave him a bath to freshen him up!
