Ive been considering buying a 110 defender to replace my shogun sport but im not sure what to do? i have 2 kids and il be having more so it would be a family car for us! ive looked at x5's and range rover sports but i love the defenders! i borrowed my dads 90 for a few days when my shogun was in getting its mot and service and i didnt want to give it back lol
got to watch for ringers in these i know shit load of them and old regs on coil springs just ask to see numbers or if its a chassis reshell ask to see bill for chassis be warned
I've had 9 defenders!
Absolutely the best car on the road!! So much fun! I've had them all, series 88-109........90-110-130 defenders, tdi td5 TDCI ...... My current 1 is 300 tdi with genuine 9.000 miles n I literally pour veg oil in it n off I go! 4 barrels of veg (20L EACH) and Ł20 diesel!!!! Loves it!!
But as stated, 50% of them stink!!! Be carefull ,landys get robbed alllllll the time!
I've had a few myself and I'd have another tomorrow.
Also had a range rover v8 and 2 300tdi discoverys
They look great! Loving the top one!
Still after one of these as a bit of a toy...
Dunno what a realistic budget is for a rough one probably around Ł4000 I imagine?...
My mates mother in law bought one for the bad weather last year lol. I drove it to the mot station and it sounds daft but i was smiling and laughing to myself.
I thought land rovers were unreliable or is that just the new ones.
I'd have a Defender in a heartbeat....always loved them and always 'spotting' them ! If I had the space to part one up 'out of the way' here I'd have one now, but parking on the lawn would;t go well with her, oddly enough....
Green Laners/off roaders in general are a right bunch of odd balls
"Let's off road"
I used to be really into landies. With some spare cash Id have a nice 90 truck cab but only for the choice of aftermarket parts and mods. They aren't the final answer in off road capability but overall the availibility of parts seals it for me.
I had contaminated rear shoes in my jimny, local factors didn't keep them in stock and I called every dealer within a 100 mile radius none had them in the shelf! I needed them reasonably sharpish, dealers all said they've not had a need for them! If it was a 90 I had the choice of about 5 landy specialists nearby I could have used.
I don't miss the off road scene now. It had changed a lot in the time I was regularly involved. There's still a good bunch that do it but there's loads that just drive like fucking idiots ignoring all safety and skill. Anyone can bolt a winch on a kitted up 90 using it all effectively and safely is a different story.
That said, I have more time for cycling now........what a bunch of boring bastards that attracts!
I've got a Discovery now, as with having a young son its a lot easier than having a 90, bought as a nice example and then i kind of went crazy, its not on the 33's any more, the picture with the plant trailer is the most recent
ive got a disco 300tdi, rear seats removed and a commercial bulkhead fitted, rear windows being blacked soon. side exit straight through exhaust just gone on. i use it as a van and love it.
had a few landrover products and liked them all apart from the thirst on v8s. my disco commercial 300tdi was the best, 5 years 55000miles and apart from brakes and filters only needed a gearbox. loved it but it rotted, sills gone, inner wings gone etc. surprisingly the boot floor was good.

How you getting on with the Series? 300tdi in yet?
I've just bought another 300tdi, passenger sill is mint but drivers in non existent so got a bit of box section to weld in, also gone under the battery, but its the mintest i've seen apart from that. 105k and the trim looks like its done 20k, engine and gearbox perfect so i think its a keeper

Built this at my work. Series 3 on a shortened defender 90 galvinised chassis with a 300tdi and autobox
Is it me, or does it look like the chassis is still a bit long? (Rear wheel too far back...?)
My dad had various Series 2/3's. A LWB, which he had about a month, Turing circle was shit, then got an Ex Securicor, SWB, complete with armour plating. Needed a clutch and gearbox. Nice and easy when you can take the floor out!
I think off roading is wicked fun but ruins the car lol. My Pajeros me cheap every day work car so I don't go too mad in it. But it dose what the land rovers do no worries so not bad for 700 quid

The rear arches are actually front arches grafted on to the rear tub.
Great old things to work on, currently got 3 chassis swaps on the go
with a 4th waiting to be started
