Evening all - my 2008 Focus ST is about due for a set of front discs & pads ,
Just wondering what other people were running brake wise ,
Was thinking along the lines of EBC drilled & grooved discs & green stuff pads ? dont want to go down massive brake route yet , just looking for something better that will fit same as standard stuff
There are a load of topics on focus stoc , my heid was frazzled trying to work out which was best !! , so thought id pop a thread up on here
Car isnt standard , running DSCi map - turbo back zorst , airtec gen3 cooler , k&n panel filter ,
many thanks team PF

Most of it is down to personal preference mate but I would always sway towards a grooved disc rather than one with holes in it due to the strength of the disc being better being grooved only. Dimpled is OK also for the same reasons. Brembo, Red Dot, Tarox, all decent brake manufacturers.
Pad choice, I would say Mintex, Ferodo, Brembo etc are all good choices. EBC brakes have had mixed opinion on many forums I've been on over many topics.

I have used tarox sport japan range! I managed to warp the standard ones at a track day, where as these ones are still true!
Another nice thing about them is that they are balanced like a wheel too so adds to stability at high speed!

I've tried most types of pad in my time, in lots of different cars,
The best by a large margin are what I'm running in the porsche at the moment, carbone Lorraine RC6,
They are a little noisy on some callipers and are quite dusty, but the pedal feel and braking ability is out of this world!

I had standard discs with ford pads in my old one and they were brilliant! The car had 300 odd hp and never got them to fade even after a hammering. I wouldnf touch ebc stuff, ive always found it to be utter turd

A lot of different opinions ! , I have heard a lot of people say Std ford discs and DS2500's were a good combo - I wont be doing any trackdays in it james , so would you say they would be more suited to the road ?
It was a few years ago I used them so the compound may well have changed, I found them very dusty even on road use.
I'm sure they would be fine though.
Not a shade on RC6s though! Even the RC5 fast road compound won't fade till over 1000deg

No mate, we don't do any brake stuff at the moment
I used red stuff and yellow stuff in the bm, and they felt like rubber brake blocks compared to these RC6s lol.
It's all down to how you use them and how you like them to feel, I know in all the types I've tried I've never been 100% happy, and never had 100% confidence, but now I can finally say I've found the pad I've been looking for, they are awesome! Spark at night too lol.

Found the pads you were on about If I priced them right they were about £290 !!! so they must be shit hot !!
They are quite dear, I think front and rear on the porka was nearly £300, I use the RC6E on the rear which are the endurance compound, they last for ages.
They are proper track pads used in all sorts of race events like NASCAR etc etc, serious things, they also stop lots of fighter jets and trains
