Cheep and cheerful until it comes to anything to do with the gearbox / clutch (very labour intensive to change).

Nice cars, but have the same problem as early Scoobies in that the internals were not ever designed to run more than a bar of boost, so modifying them is quite expensive, as they need better internals to go above 300bhp.

REALLY shit brakes for the standard power, let alone a tweeked one .

Nice cars .

i reckon they are better than 4x4 cossies for cheep and cheerful tuning and reliability.

brakes suspension, a set of rims, zorst, filter and a bar of boost will make it quicker than the cos to a point ( datsun has the aerodynamics of a brick)

The boxes and engines are fine at 300 if you drive them properly. You can do around 20 brake more but you will have to make sure fueling is right if . Clutch is an engine out but not too bad just time consuming.

Mine was running close to 300 (never checked it after last set of mods) and was quicker than my mates escos (around the 330 brake mark) to the ton

mine is now standard again but was as quick as mates stage 1 4x4 saph which i was pleased with

good cars but getting comon as muck now and load of muppets are buying ropey ones as the imports are knocking prices down and cant afford to run them properly.

John me old cock, perhaps you didn't have over 300bhp, but just "thought" you did . Next you'll tell me you believe you "calculated" flywheel power... .

Sorry for praising the car, perhaps I should have mentioned the downside of some of the owners being nobbers .

It's actually on the side of his car if you click on his link in his sig . Calaculated flywheel figure though, so about as much meaning as guessing .

Would like to know what it made at the wheels ?

John,

Mike is quite right about the internals.

Plus, every GTiR owner who's running an actuator and a bar of boost thinks they have 300bhp. Don't get me wrong -proper quick little cars........... we have one on the family too

Ugly things, but pocket rockets! To be honest most i have seen are crap, but my mate has got an awsome little one. Supposidle running this bar of boost 300bhp and its the quickest one i have seen by far!! even better than ones with claimed more bhp. Hes gone though about 4 gearboxes though

Oh and i seen one blow up in a spectaculair way tring to catch me before

Two pulsars today at bruntingthorpe got 0 - 100 in 7 sec's and out of 9 pulsars i think 8 was in the 4's to 60 and two in the 3's. They are very quick and cheap i've had mine for over 3 years, plenty hard driving and only had one gearbox and one clutch running 356bhp.

Probably better than a saff 1/4 but not motorway or after 100mph.
They both have good and bad points

i took one for a test drive a few weeks back, few bits and bobs and a claimed 300bhp....was a quick little car but wasnt overly impressed. a decent xr2 turbo would have stuck to its back bumper all the way to about 120 i recon.

overall though i wouldnt buy one, the one i saw was a proper dog though, the engine went on the test drive - turns out the bloke was running it with no oil

if it were my 6 or 7 grand, id find a nice condition early lancer EVO!

1) There's a couple of guys on the Gtir forum that'll do clutches for you if need be, cheap (ish) and in a day

2) If the fuelling and ignition are spot on you can run over 400bhp on standard internals (americans claim 500on standard internals

3) pretty much true

You don't need alot of money to make these fast. 1bar will see 275ish on average and high 12 1/4s. My car only has 246 and will do 13dead

like any car, buy a dog and you'll be cying all the way to the bank, get a good one and you'll be smiling all the way there.

I must be honest - I've never seen a reliable pulasr running 400 on std intenals!

Even if you could get the fuelling spot on, which I would presume involves a management change, it's gonna cost you a fair amount to run that close to the limit....................

Agree with you on the other stuff though - our one is similar spec to yours, and goes like shit off a shovel - nothing in it to 130 with my 2wd saff whilst rolling. Off the line, I claim I miss the start

I have a pulsar, had it for 3 years now, it runs a bar of boost, mongoose exhaust and a HKS filter. My missus uses it every day and has done for the 3 years and the only thing to have gone wrong with it was the water pump (started to leak out of the by-pass hole - rusty inside, apparently this is common, Ł42 and a days work on me ramps )

Overall i definately prefer my cossie and would pick that over my gtir most days of the week, BUT thats not to say the cossie is a better car! i just like the feel of the cosworths - they feel raw and the power delivery is more harsh, wereas the gtir is quite smooth and progressive and the gtir has much more grip. I reckon its down to personal taste.

Overall after owning the pulsar gtir I would recomend them just buy the best you can afford

Oh and have a look at www.tmimports.net you can import them straight from japan and get them a little cheaper, this is the best site ive seen for it

I like mine I only really bought it to tinker with so it's not the best example in the world but it'll do me for now.

If you learn how to drop the engine yourself you'll save a shit load of cash

Oh and as above, standard brakes on a standard car are pretty shocking

They're not sooo bad if you're on your own but any more than one person in the car and it becomes quite tricky to stop.

Don't you have to drop the engine out to get to the clutch or cam belt or something?

Yup, clutch change requires dropping the engine.

It's nowhere near as bad as it sounds though.

I've heard of a couple go, but it tends to be the gearbox rather than the transfer box that gives trouble.
