Default Has Sony just killed the real Nurburgring?

Got a horrible feeling that open days at the ring are going to be unworkable the longer GT4 is out - anyone else think this. Yes it has been on other machines etc but GT4 is the daddy and so is playstation in numbers is it not.

Also interesting - will it be more or less dangerous to the new comer? yes you may know where it goes ish but you wont have a clue of gradients or leaves .... even buses for that matter!!!! (should have had buses in the game LOL)

Hope to be wrong but a lot of people are not going to realise that it is a road with laws of the road etc!

Scary stuff - but then the ring always was

Martin

like when top gear went there and spoke to the lads on the bikes, he said its not like the came is it, so yes some people probley will think they know it well after playing the came only to come unstuck if they ever get to do it for real

I have witnessed it for real - believe me the game is pretty and looks accurate..... it is nothing like the ring though!

If anyone thinks that they can get a true idea of what it is like to drive a specific car / circuit from a computer game, then they want to wake up and smell the coffee .

No computer game will ever give you the palpatations of getting a corner wrong or the thrill of getting it just right in REAL life .

Hopefully GT4 will keep those kind of people in their living rooms, leaving the enthusiasts an empty circuit to enjoy .

I see your point Martin, but I'm not planning to jump on a plane and go and drive Laguna Seca, although that would be cool

I have not played GT4 yet, but as soon as my finals are over i'm getting it and going to use it as a tool to help speed up my learning of the circuit layout for when I go in September!

Having been to the ring in real life (and having more than one braincell) I know it cannot replace putting in real laps, but all people did before GT4 was watch videos again and again to learn the circuit before they went (Watty?) I don't see how GT4 is much different!

GT4 is fine, just as long as you remember that you have to play the real thing with only one life and one car .

You think that is bad listen to this. There is a game out for the PC called Live For Speed which probably the most realistic game simulator out at the moment. Best thing is you can play online in races with people all round the world.

I decided to pop on to some of the open servers for some drifting and eventually some people joined up. They came out the pits, drove down the track, pulled over on the grass side by side and starting IRC'ing one another via the game Sometimes they would parade down to a new location and that was it. They were kRoOzIn in the game.

So it would seem

I'm a sensible and cautious driver though, even if I knew every corner on the ring (hopefully I will before I even get there in a way) I still wouldn't push my car to the limit there!

Couldn't agrere more, for instance, on the Saxo site (sorry, I still occasionally post there) there's loads of 'Ring heros' who are supposedly going this year, they're all familiar with the GT version of the track now but, although accurate, as said, is nothing like the real thing. If you go round the real thing carrying speeds through sections just because you can on a computer game then you need your head checking!!

LOL

Did you see that programme on tv where a top computer game developer had to "fake" being a real race driver in a Formular Ford...

I think the programm was "faking it" lol

ANyway... the bloke was a cocky shit and was good on the game but was SHIT on track... in fact he was sooo bad the people who had to find the "fake" thought he was a red herring!!

Computer games are nothing like real life....

Oh god all NathRs mates are going over this year in their maxos! - They'll all crash on the roundabouts and carpark - let alone the ring - actually they might just park up in the carpark and deafen everyone!.

Suppose after a year and everyone has kissed the wall, run the odd motorbiker off and blown their cars up it might calm down again

Martin - it's so true!

Even in EVO's "new lap record", the author reckoned he would have died over 50 times had it been for real!

I've been posting sub 7 min laps, but I had a 170mph "Felstead" moment through Schwedenkreuz - had that have been real, they would have been picking my body out of the trees!

I reckon, as a direct result, someone will die from ridiculous over-confidence, and the Ring will face tougher restrictions on entry...........

p.s. how long did it take you to realise the significance of that sig?

If the ring tightens up cos of a PS2 game (fnar, fnar), then don't blame Sony / PS2 players - blame the mupwits who suddenly think they can drive cos they've played a computer game!!

About 2 seconds, but as I don't take myself seriously, I thought that it was funny as well .

Think martin hadland starting putting reminders on mikes bill to remove ring meister from his sig

The game makers could take partial blame as no reference is made to the rules that are actually in place at the ring etc like the fact it is a road under normal traffic law! - pretty anal I know but it is a point. Guess it is up to the officials at the ring to try to get the message across!

Anyone who thinks if they mastered the game can master the track is kidding themselves! I went to Nurburgring couple of years ago with a couple of VW Golf owners even though i never drove on it as a passenger you can tell apart from the visual look of the track theres nothing remotely the same between the game and real life.

For example some of the hills really take your stomache away, certain bends you think theres no way you can take at 100mph+ but if you get it right you can go so fast, some of the blind bends you can take flat out at 130mph the golf was drifting wide that sensation your mind telling this is not possible to go round that corner at this speed your going to die you dont experience in any game!
