As if by magic l found this thread towards the bottom of this page

https://passionford.com/forum/genera...buy-avoid.html

The best are Autoart, MiniChamps and Sunstar l have no experience yet of Biante or Otto although l gather they are good,

What scale do you plan on collecting? You will need deep deep pockets if you want to take it seriously

I collect 1 43 and get them off ebay, mainly vanguards and minichamps.

Its VERY expensive once you start and very addictive!

Hi,

Ive only just had chance to read your replys, ive looked at a few of the sunstar ones and they look ok, was just interested to see which ones other people who are more knowledgeable about it collected.

I like the idea of collecting the 1:18 scale ones, Ł60-80 seems average for most models that scale that i want to start adding to a collection.

Basically i want to start collecting them for my son, plan was/is to get him as many as possible gonna start at the beginning as in Mk1 Escort and work my way upto current day.... I know theres a hell of alot to collect in that category so to speak but i like the idea of doing it and hopefully he will appreciate it!

Thanks

I think it is very hard to start at a specific model, you see something for sale that you are comfortable paying the asking price for and go for it, l have all sorts in my collection mainly Rally Cars Ford/Subaru/Mitsu and Touring Cars RS500's and Skylines

I see where your coming from on the its hard to focus on one specific model range, basically im gonna make a list of the ones i definitely want to collect, i suppose i dont have to collect that list in a specific order so in theory its just a case of keep checking websites etc to see which has the best deals so to speak on cars in that list and work it that way?
It works in theory lol but whether it works in practice is another thing, i imagine that model fords are very collectable as there is a big ford scene in general. I know that there are other models that i wont be able to resist buying, things like E30 M3, Audi Quattro, Skyline(s), 911's, .... After reading back through what ive just wrote this is gonna get expensive lol

Agree with Mike.
Autoart, Minichamps and Sunstar good for details etc.
Sunstar used to be great value (Ł25 for MK1 and MK2 Escorts).
Otto is fairly new, made from resin, but detail is very good.
Biante is great detail but prices are very expensive as they come from Australia.
Personally I focused on 1:18 Ford models which include all the above makes.
But you will need deep pockets these days due to the diecast metal prices increasing greatly.
Nevertheless a good investment (even the wife believes me now as I have over 400)

Jason, how much does it typically cost to get a model shipped over from Aus?

Cheers
