Default Airbag light stuck on help please

Hi guys and gals

Been awhile since I been around here had to sell my xr2i a couple years ago now

But anyway the misses is getting a new car it's a 99 V reg mk5 fiesta, the airbag lights stuck on the seller reckons he's plugged it in and is showing no fault ? Know the part that has got me thinking is when you indicate left it won't auto cancel the turn signal so could it be a fault behind the wheel ? Would that affect the airbag in anyway ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanx Liam

Does it have seat belt pre-tensioners fitted ?

If it does sometime the plug under the seat breaks up or comes apart with constantly moving the drivers seat and rear passengers feet kicking it about. With the ignition off try and find the plugs and make sure they are seated correctly..

worth a try as a no cost fix if they are fitted..

HTH..

I don't know this car, but potentially yes. If it's not cancelling it's because the bit that does that has snapped off. There is a connection from the column to the airbag that it could have fucked up.

I was in an american car turning the wheel as I went into a parking space - it went click, click, crunch. Then the airbag light came on.

I wound the seat as far back as I could and drove straight back to the hire company

Surely if the air bag. light was on there should be a fault code.

Thanks mate will check it all out, picking the car up 2moro so will have a good look at the connections under the seat,

I think he only plugged it in with a normal OBD reader ? I've been told that there's a different type of device for checking airbag systems ? Dunno if thats right or not but hey ho lol

I got a lot of friends in the trade so if push come to shove I'll just have to book it in somewhere and hope they do me a good price lol

well if you don't get it sorted it wont pass the next MOT , all dash lights should go out when the engine is running, part from the hand brake light (if the hand brake is on) get the seller to fix it, or get the price down

if he does if it, make sure it does come on went you first start the engine and then goes out, some bar stewards disconnect it or remove the bulb so it should pass the MOT if the tester notices, he probably will cos this law has just come in (all dash lights must come on and go out as they should)

OBD reader is for engine codes, airbag ECU is different. The part that has failed behind the wheel is called the clock spring, most likely the culprit. You might need to have the light reset by a dealer before it will go out though, I'm not sure.

Don't think we can get the price down much more to be honest lol it's only Ł400 had a new clutch fitted at 68k and its only on 72k now, arches are all rust free, it's a clean little car for the money but the airbag light Is the only fault, it needed a new seatbelt as the old one didn't retract properly so the seller has fitted that for us. But he said if the airbag light cost to much he won't let us have it at that price so I told him I'll sort the airbag hoping it can be done relatively cheap lol and by this point the misses had already forked out Ł75 admin fee to swap her insurance

Had it plugged in today and fault came up as airbag control module. So where would be the best place to get one of these ? eBay off a scrapper or would somewhere like the fiestacentre be better/more trusted ?
