I don't know this car, but potentially yes. If it's not cancelling it's because the bit that does that has snapped off. There is a connection from the column to the airbag that it could have fucked up.

I was in an american car turning the wheel as I went into a parking space - it went click, click, crunch. Then the airbag light came on.

I wound the seat as far back as I could and drove straight back to the hire company
