Got a heated screen on the old shell in good order but noticed the new shell only has a standard screen, yet the heated screen switch is still there and no doubt the wiring.
Now I've tried removing these on rs turbos in the past with no joy and I was told I was being a tight arse and trying to get the seal out rather than just cutting it and fitting a new one hence saving the screen.
So my question is that the best way? Stanley knife the seal out then carefully remove the screen?
No mad panic but I see no point in binning a decent heated screen for no reason.
Thanks all.

escort turbo screens are string in so a piece of pee to remove and refit but sierra screens are bonded so a pig to get out at best of times but if you dont have cheesewire or a kent knife, then a long bladed stanley knife with a sqeezy bottle of soapy water to spray on the screen bonding adhesive to slice through

If it's an original screen, or even one that's been in for a few years, you've got little chance of getting it out in one piece. Sierra's are shit for holding water around the screen - the "seal" around the edge isn't a seal, it's just a trim, but they get tired, allow water to seep in, and that sits under it around the edges of the screen. The screen ends up adsorbing the water and moisture in between it's two layers of glass, causing it to delaminate, which makes it very weak.
I can get them out with wire, but even then, trying to save the terminals on the bottom of the glass is very very hard, and most end up breaking the solder joint rendering it useless.

As its the wire heated type k reg sapphire ???
I can answer that one, if you have fully comp insurance then you will have a glass cover which means you only pay a policy excess and does not effect you main insurance policy and cant be held against you, however third party & fire and theft policys do not have this cover unless especially asked for as a add on extra

^ Correct
Saff, and mk1 Sierra, screens are still available, so it's not a problem if yours get's broken. But if it's your fault you broke it, such as you were trying to remove it yourself, or doing work inside/outside the car and broke it, don't be an honest tit and tell them, just say you don't know how it happened if they ask you
I had a woman with a Pug 307 once, whose screen was leaking. She bought the car second hand, but it was only a few years old, and it was the factory screen that was leaking. She tried Pug who told her she doesn't have a warranty with them - fair enough. She then rang her insurance co, and told them it was leaking. When asked if it was cracked she said no, just leaking. They refused to pay out for a new one on the grounds on "fair wear and tear", so she ended up with a bill of £440 for a new screen through the company I was working for. Ouch!
