namely the gl 350 blue thingy
my mate is looking at them and has upto £45k to spend on one, but obviously needs to find out if there are any issues that may need resolving on the ones he's going to look at
they don't seem to be very common and he's only found a handful in the country, and by the time he goes to see them they've been sold

It's all about 7 proper seats which is why he's getting shot of his cayenne and this is the only suitable replacement
He's dismissed everything else as a range would have to be the discovery and they are dog slow

So's the GL apparently. I asked him when I first saw your post, and was surprised by the level of vitriol in his reply.
But, if that's your mate's only choice then I guess he'd better go for it

Apparently they are the older versions and have not got the same engines
He's been out in a 420 d and it was dog slow, I mean really dog slow, he pulled out of a junction on the test drive and he floored it expecting a bit if a kick and nearly got taken out by a truck he thought he was going to have no trouble with
The ml420 was doing 35 mph at that point
His cayenne was doing 60 mph at the same point
And these newer 350 d mercs tend to get a proper shift on but he's never been able to test one on a GL lol
My mates got one in an e class estate and its deceptively fast
