Has anyone here not used a vernier on the exhaust cam and slackend the stock pulley and retarded 6 degrees this way.

im tempted to do it but looking for some advice on it first.

its possible this way and has the same effect, but with a vernier they are marked with the degree to adjust adv/ret

you would have to know bang on where 6degrees was on the std pulley, then dowell the pulley as they move when you torque them up

thank you.

i was thinking of fitting the belt as stock then remove the straight bar that locks the rear of the cams and i would twist the cam. im thinking of making or having made a 5mm bar with a 6 degree angle in one end to align the exaust cam if that makes sense.

erm, in all fairness

i would be inclined to mark the pulley, and even drill a small pilot hole when it is marked up at 6degrees

then put the cam and pulley in a vice (gently mind!) and tap a roll pin into it

bit not all the way through as it`ll piss oil everywhere!

if the pulleys as standard are just held by bolt then i just thought i could put thread lock on bolt and re tighten back in after i turn the cam -6deg. iv never done a belt on a zetec or any other similar engine(last was cvh and 8v vaux a long time back) so iv plenty to learn but im willing to try most things if it will work.

im a carpenter so have some knowledge on working with angled degrees and have some ideas on how i can make up devices to adjust fairly accurately.

its just the cost of the pulley that puts me off. for a start they come in pairs and cheapest ive found is £120

if doing it diy is too risky for the reward then i may re think it though??
