When I had my moondust Puma the paint match to the alloys was spot on. I refurbed one of my Focus ST alloys with the same moondust paint and that too was spot on.
Don't forget a few coats of clear lacquer over the top too
I use Ford Strato(s?) silver which is apparently the original shade for the 80's Ford alloys.
Stratos silver was also one of the colours that they painted the Mk3 XR3i's in, wasn't aware that it was also the colour for the alloys.
Both the RS alloys and ST alloys above look really good. What's the best way to remove scuffs? Fill and sand or just rub them down until the scuff is removed?

No filler depends if the scratch has gone really deep mine I just 180 grit the edge till scratches where gone , you can get some proper alloy filler too
Ford wheel silver is nice I did my softlines in that colour very sparkly in the sun
Very interesting this topic. Is this Stratos Silver as mentioned before? And is this available in spray cans from Motip?
I am repainting my wheels at the moment and I like a bit brighter than it was so they will look very nice and fresh.
Any tips for what kind of filler to use?
Nah it's actually called ford wheel silver I found it in the colour chips at wrk not sure if you can get it in rattle cans if ya can dont use filler feather the curb marks out with 180 grit then go 320 dust some primer then 500 or 800 over the primer also if you go through to bare alloy make sure u etch prime the areas I have seen b4 people using super clue on bad chips but I wouldn't u can get this stuff that's alloy powder can't think what it's called though
Ok thanks for the advice. Ford Silver wont be for sale in the usual car shop I quess? So then the best you can buy in the shop will be the Stratos silver to get a nice but little bit brighter silver colour?
I needed to paint the centre caps of my wheels to match the original Ford colour, and found this thread and a few others to be quite useful.
Most people seemed to be saying that the colour to use was Strato Silver or Moondust Silver. My local motor factors stocks Holts paint, and I found this when I looked up those colours:
FORD EUROPE : 1976 - 1992 : STRATO SILVER MET. 2C : HSILM15
FORD EUROPE : 1976 - 1992 : STRATO SILVER MET. 2C : HSILM19
FORD EUROPE : 1991 - 2012 : MOONDUST SILVER MET. 2C : HSILM11
FORD EUROPE : 1991 - 2012 : MOONDUST SILVER MET. 2C : HSILM15
See http://www.holtspaints.com/
Having found that the same paint HSILM15 was suggested as a match for both colours, I bought some. I am quite pleased with how well it matches the original Ford wheel colour.
When I coated it with lacquer, I found the colour darkened, as some people have mentioned. It seems to have returned to the original colour once the lacquer dried though.
See photos below of my Fiesta wheels. Only the centre cap has been re-painted. The rest of the wheel is the original Ford colour. It's not an exact match, but it's certainly close enough for me.
