RPMs jumping only when idle
Hello!
My car is an 88' Sierra 2.0 EFI lambda (101hp).
When car is idling (I mean engine running while in neutral or clutch disengaged) RPMs are jumping pretty roughly from about 400-1000RPMs. When I step a little bit on the gas, then engine is running very smooth. What could be the problem?
Is the idle air valve dirty (and where is it located in this exact engine)? Or air flow meter? But I think air flow meter was okay, because I opened it up and checked resistances for the main air valve and they were okay.
Thanks,
Toms from Riga, Latvia, Eastern Europe

it'll be the idle control valve
one the side of the inlet manifold, looks like a tube about 6 inches long with one side being a bit thicker than the other and with 2 wires going to it on a multi plug
will be held in place by 2 10mm bolts top and bottom
it will need cleaning at the very least by letting it soak in a bowl of petrol overnight, just don't get it into the electrical contacts but make sure it goes into the 2 holes and you let it sit for about 24 hours
you will need a new gasket when you refit it
new ones were about £50 last time i checked

and they are the same on the granada's and the later dohc sierra's
you may need to reset the base idle again after cleaning them, there is a way to do it but i can't remember now but it involved removing the throttle position sensor and undoing the throttle stops too

fordsierraclub not helping, because registration sucks there
All my e-mails were identified as spam e-mails
altough they were @gmail.com
Anyways if someone knows how to reset the base idle, then I would be very thankfull

I shall try and get the sierra club to sort something out fella
Also just realised you've got a lambda equipped car, in which case it may be something else in the system, but I can't recall them ever being fitted with cats over here so if your engine bay is not as described by me above, a picture would be helpful
I'll find out about where to get one from mike, but if its a Cossie one they are different

the cossie ones are the short ones, which slot into the inlet manifold, and they are FUCKING TIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
might be worth asking as a seperate topic
