stripped a 2ltr dohc auto ghia sapphire
i did not know that any sierra came with heated washer jets and the rear spoiler was the same as the cosworth but had a brake light in it and it was hollow so super light compared to the cosworth one , this car must have had all the little extra stuff , car had only done 58 000 or not much more

High spec Sierras had heated washer jets but I think the spoiler is after market. No Sierra ever had a high level brake light from the factory, certainly not in the spoiler.

Correct high spec models from 90 onwards had heated jets, are you sure about the screen though, I think this is 88 onward?

You've broken a 92 spec ghia demo car from the sounds of it

They came with a lot of kit but the hot jets are nothing new, they were part of the hot screen options so if you had a hot screen they wired them in as well

The electric roof was a 92 upgrade which gives the year away and the speakers were of higher spec too on the front and the rear

The hot screen was from 87 facelift onwards

The granadas had all this is about 85 and the sierras got it later down the line

So from what your saying a early Saph, i.e pre 4x4, the wiring will be there, so the jets can just be fitted?

It just plugs onto the hot screen loom mate

Or piggy backs?

They just have different plugs depending on the year, square or oval from what I can remember, my mate had them in his 91 spec 2000E and also on his 90 spec ghia 4x4 estate

So basically the jets were avaliable pre 90 as an optional extra, opposed to standard on the later models?

They were optional on the 90 spec cars and I think they were standard on the 92 spec cars but were not available for the 89 spec at all

Makes sense as the 2WD and so early models never had them, but they were standard on the 4x4 arn't they, the easiest of which is 90?

the "90 spec" was the 1990 facelift onwards, which gave the smoked lights at the rear, clear front indicators, deleted the under dash speakers and gave a larger glove box on the passenger side plus the addition of the drivers side glove box, the different central locking setup (which meant different doors), different heater controls, the introduction of all disc brakes on the dohc engined cars, different seat fabrics, true twin din centre console stereo set up, a redesigned upper and lower dash board (all 3 parts), remote boot and filler cap opening, deletion of the boot push lock and a different shape for some of the wiring plugs and sockets

the "92 spec" facelift saw the wrap around upper dash, different heater controls yet again, a smaller instrument cluster, different door cards with 4 screw door handles instead of 3, electric sunroof options, no more trip computer, single rear number plate light (other than the cosworth, which retained the older double light set up), body coloured bumpers across the range, abs as standard on the gls models (previously only standard on the ghia and cossie models, there is some debate as to when they standardised it on the xr range as some still came without and some were badged as ghia models on the estate versions, they were optional on all but the cossie on everything before the 90 spec, even the 2000e) and so on and so forth, and they changed the plug connector shapes again, now including a triangle and square shape to replace the older round and oval versions

i'm sure there were other changes but these are the main ones that are noticeable and can tell you if you've had a car made in one year or another and also the easiest things to change if you want to update your car to the latest specs

everything is interchangable along the way
