Default MK6 Escort van (what are they like?)

Hi I'm new to the forum so hello and i'm a young driver (17 years old just passed) so yes i'm expecting a lot of hate and banter Anyway just got myself an Escort van 1.8d N/A 51 plate 130k on the clock. It's got all full service history from brand new, brand new cambelt+water pump and full 12 month mot ticket on it plus full body respray. Reason i bought it is because for some weird reason they are really cheap to insure for young drivers; £2,700 for a Corsa 1.0 got the escort van for £900 on my own name fully comp 25K miles per year. Just want to ask what are they like maintenance costs etc. I'm doing around 500 miles per week so far i'm impressed with the economy will do around 100 miles on a tenner doing(55-60mph on motorways). Anything i've got to watch out for on these? Going to probably put some mondy zetec alloys on it, side skirts and get the mirrors, front bumper and rear 1/4 bumpers colour coded, think they look quite smart when that's done to them.

The vans are cracking vans. I've had 3.

If its got fsh and just had cambelt then there's nothing else to do.

I would check leak of pipes that run from each injector, it's small fuel hose that loops between. These can deteriorate and leak and its only £2 for enough pipe to renew the lot.

They are great and as long as they are looked after it will go on forever, my friend's dad has covered over 500k in his, he is a long distance courier so sits on the motorway all day, it gets a very easy life!

Only problem is they are getting old now and even the newest ones are rotting away.
