Default chip board

Hi
All the chips I have used in cosworths over the years in L1,L6 and L8 have plugged directly into the board. The chip im putting in my L8 escos has a small circuit board fitted just a tiny bit bigger than the chip itself. I noticed some of the MSD chips pictured on ebay have this board and some dont, just out of curiosity what is it for and do I need to use it in a standard L8.
cheers
Paul

For MSD chips I think it's their encryption software? If the chip has it, you need it as far as I know.

This ^^, it sounds like a "Pectel board", as said it's a form of hardware encryption and it won't run without it!
