All I can tell you is the struts in the picture are both original, not aftermarket.

It was Dojj who told me.

out of intrest dose that mean the escort is heavier on the front or are the springs shorter ? as the spring seat being higher it would lift the ride hight of the car ?

I doubt the escort is any heavier than a 4x4 Saff, I don't know the reasons why the spring cup is higher?

The EScos had 8x16 wheels where as the 4x4 Saff had 7 x15? I think?

I'd hazard a guess at it being to do with fitting the wheels they had in mind with the 4x4 Sierra stuff in the escort wings?

I really don't know mate

i think your spot on with the wheel width as i have 7.5" wheels on the 4x4 sierra cosworth set up with coilovers and there is not much room between coilover and tyre at 8" i recon it would be on it or a baw hair space lol

The Escort wheels still fit a sapph. I think it's more the tyres that are used by the Escort that might be a problem to fit a sapph. 225/45 R16 is a bit bigger than the 205/45 R16, which the sapph would need to keep the same tyre radius as standard.

Fitting the Escort struts to a Sapph would increase the ride height on a Sapph though.

thats a fairly wide tyre at 225 , i run 215 and dont think i would go wider on the front as its always good to see day light between a moving bit and a bit that dose not move lol , it would be down to wheel offset too so alot of diffrent ways to mess around with

I've yet to see how it's going to pan out with the ride height.

I was wanting to find some lowering springs for a V6 xr4x4, when I dug into it all the part numbers where the same for 4 & 6 cylinder models - I would expect the V6 springs to be a different rate for the extra weight of the engine, but not, even one supplier told me they are all made the same!

Anyway, I stick the BOA in my Saff using all the Granada 24v stuff minus the shocks and springs - I found the Escos struts local, cheap and only done 40 thousand miles, at that time I couldn't find any cheap second hand XR struts so slapped them on with standard sierra pinto springs Just to get it rolling again as it's in a friends garage getting welding etc and he wanted it to be moveable.

I think dojj has since said about the ride height, but i'm hoping if I get some decent springs and the weight of the engine might balance it out - shall have to weight and see.

you could talk to gaz and get two coilovers speced for the car with that engine , dont think it will be cheap mind you my two front were around £350 i think and that was them speced to the pickup with its engine
