mondy ST gearbox or clutch
any views guys, i have a rasping metal rubbing noise, its really audible at 40mph, if i dip the clutch fully the noise goes, if i take the car out of gear and roll down a hill the noise goes, as i approach the biting point of the clutch the noise seems worse, upto 40/50mph you can hear it easily, if i let the accelerator pedal lift up quickly it seems to make the noise worse ? had Ford and an independant test drive the car and because the noise goes when clutch fully depressed they think its more likely a bearing in the gear box - just got a quote £700 to drop gearbox, replace bearings and refit, how can i confirm it is the gearbox and not the clutch without removing it, any ideas ?
thanks in advance
Steve.

regardless of what it COULD be. Ya need to get the bell housing out anyway. It wont take a genius to realise just by lookin at dmf etc,if its that or your box.could be play on your DMF.when you press clutch, its taking up the play. I'll say its dmf 70% sure
