Best budget brake pads
I'm doing a mondeo caliper conversion on my sierra. What pads would the best for bite and performance. I've seen mintex or pagid, or feredo sl or ebc ultimate all under £30.im going to be using grooved discs only because of the looks of them. Cheers
brake engineering pads are really good, i use them on all my cars now after constantly getting the arse with mintex
just had my st170 discs delivered actually with my mk3 mondeo pads
let me know if you want the part numbers, the online catalog is pretty good aswell once you get used to it

I'm using Brembo pads from www.nextdaybrakes.co.uk (iirc) on my Audi, been very very pleased so far and done some track days. The fluid gave out long before the pads did.
In my experience I wouldn't touch EBC after countless issues with their Green Stuff pads, Yellows and Reds are supposed to be pretty good though. Past problems just rule them out for me.

Cheers lads I was never going to buy a tenner set of eBay pads but I thought as I had heard of all them makes surely they must be ok. It's never going on the track so cant see I need a £100 set of pads.

Is buying a well know big branded pads like ebc or mintex skimping? Do I really need a race compound mintex pad or ebc for road use? I'm upgrading the calipers from standard sierra to much bigger mondeo ones and bigger discs from st170 so surely with a standard oe type pad they will be much sharper than standard 4i brakes. Cheers
I've got mintex on at the mo and they squeel very loudly from time to time so I'd avoid them in the future. For a standard road pad I'd stick a set of brembo sports or pagids on.
"budget" and "best" don't even work when you are buying burgers so it would probably be a better question to ask what pads have been the best for other users and then find the cheapest supplier for them
but don't go silly, i've paid £70 for a set of standard issue pads before that were worse than the £30 set i bought from the motor factors

i have always got on well with ferrodo, no issues with a minimum of the premier range.
ebc were wank, never bother with those again.
mintex have been fine with big brake conversions on light cars, very dusty i thought though when i used them with 4wd cossie brakes.
so ferrodo for me again.

Can't fault Ferodo DS2500 pads or their predecessor DS2000. I was mis-sold a set of their DS Performance ones (said they were DS2500), I fitted them anyway, dusty as hell and lasted all of about 3000 miles on the front, so best avoid them.

I'm trying to get rid of the full FRS set-up if your interested would prob suit the 2wd better than the Mondeo set-up
