Someone i know has a sapphire that am looking at, but am being put of as its had a patch on the floor close to the sill, the car is in the 6k mark, dont want to pay big money for a rust bucket, whats people veiws on a patch car would it put you off?

 

If its been welded by someone that knows what there doing then it will as strong as not having a patch plus you won't be able to see it anyway lol
If its been done by some one who can't weld get the money knocked off to get it re done by some one that can!

 

Not if it's been done properly, wouldn't bother me one bit.

 

Has it had a patch welded over the hole as is not an uncommon bodge or was the rot cut out and a new bit welded in as the latter wouldn't bother me

 

im picky with this now, next saff shell i buy will be un welded hopefully, 1.8lx or whatever wouldnt bother me


again, if its cut out then fine, if not it`ll cause more damage than you`d think

 

Wouldn't and hasn't bothered me. For Ł6, you'll be lucky to find one thats never had a patch, and doesn't need any!

 

It's a 20 year old car that's known to turn orange. If its not on the strut tops I wouldn't think twice

 

You have to remember that these cars are 20+ years old so many of them will have had welding at some point in there life. Just have a good look everywhere you can see so you get a good car.

i agree would not bother me , as you will get it the put it to your standard anyway granted its 6k and you may not feel like touching it after spending that but its not new

There are very few that have never seen a welder, and those tend to be the lower millage examples, as said, so long as it's been repaired properly, there is no problem.

Tbh it will require further welding at some point, as you find once it's starts, your literally chasing it around the car, the only thing to try and prevent it is under sealing.

My car is a patchwork quilt, but my welding is good so I'm happy having it like it is. But if I were buying I would want pictures of the work tbh, as it could have been plated over like one bodge I found on my mini. I would want to look at it in all honesty.

 

These cars are nearly 25 years old so they will have the odd plate or 5 !!

If it's done properly then I wouldnt be bothered , all cars will have a plate at some point in it's life . I've seen 5 year old cars rusting and needed welding so don't worry

 

No way, I'd only buy a delivery miles car. Patches are for weak men.

 

 

how big is the patch, but if your not sure there is plenty of cars out there to choose from

There cant be many sierras left that havent had welding.

 

I was gutted when i found my soild as a rock and never welded saph needed some new metal putting back into her.
The main place was the gear tunnel!! very strange place for it to go but as you can see if its cut right out and put back neatly you would never know!! i ended up doing both front floor pans and seat mounts as well!!!!
ive seen some lovely saphs and when u lift the carpet they have plates stuck over the top of rot!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ive now got to cover it all back over with sound deadining any way so you wont see it but i no that its been done to the best of my ability

 

I had a small hole in my passenger footwell recently and when I removed the carpet, I noticed that the transmission tunnel had been patched, I too found this very strange.

Mine has had no welding last one i had i done a bit on the rear chassis leg above exhaust on the double skin joint guess ive been lucky
