Default Sierra XR24v

Eventually found a 24v for the old XR,yey! And it came with a free Scorpio attached. Does anyone on here have any info on mating it to a cossie T5 box, without having to pay £460 for a bellhousing from burton power! I have the bellhousing from the original type 9 and the 1 from the auto box from the Scorpio. The cossie box already has a substantial adapter plate fitted which i can re-use as i had it fitted to a rover V8. Does anyone know which bellhousing Top Boss Performance use in their kits,i've e mailed them but to no avail. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I just used a type 9 in mine.

No idea on how to adapt a bellhousing to fit a T5

My old 24v 4i

Very nice! Has it been ok with the type 9? I've heard they break easily. The lad i bought the car from had already replaced the box because the 2.8 killed it. Managed to contact Top Boss, they told me you can use the type 9 bellhousing but it needs machined out to clear the bigger input shaft bearing cover on the T5 so that is my plan.

I only had one box die on me. Before the engine was fitted in the 4i I had it in a Cortina.

They go ok, you can almost treat it like a auto going down to 20mph in 5th and just plant your foot and your off.

i'm not brave enough to run a type 9 lol as the car will see a lot of hard launches, and you can only change so many boxes before you go insane. Not too bad a job in a Sierra but never again will i do one in a Mondeo ST24!

Bit of a hold up on the engine swap as i have to have the engine loom re-made. I stripped it out to seperate the auto box wiring from the loom and found all the wires that run in the valley have brittle insulation. Every wire is cracked and crazed, the Scorpio ran fine with no problems but now its been disturbed its a mess. On a more positive note I have a diff and shafts from a GRP A Escort Cos to fit soon

Shame I didnt see this last weekend as I could have got more relevant pictures before I bolted it all up!

Whats needed for the t9 bell hosuing to t5 route....

t9 need machining as noted already, an adapter plate made and a spigot bearing extender made due to the thickness of the adapter plate

Other fix is the mustang ii v6 bellhousing(from the us) but this is even more work than the t9 conversion.

I'm doing BOA conversion in my saph at mo and I've gone MT75 hybrid route for a few reasons really;
1. Mt75 hybrids are £350 less than converting a T5 (thats if you have one otherwise you got cost of a T5 box also).
2.T5 box's are good but do not like shift downs into 3rd (syncro's tend to fail).
3 For price it will cost to have T5 rebuilt (roughly £300-£400) I can get 4/5 standard Mt75 box's for the internals
4. Mt75 hybrid is a perfectly capable box to cope with BOA/BOB engine until you go twin turbo it and run medium to high psi

Quite a bit to catch up on here as I aint been on for days lol. I'm presuming the Cortina nut in Essex is Steve Taylor,he has put these motors in everything from crayfords to transits! As for the ready made loom, the engine i'm using is a B.O.B, will he be able to sort a loom as this motor is harder to wire in with the immobiliser etc. I'm planning on using the T5 box as I already have it,it has Quaife semi-helical gears in it and heavy duty synchro's,was rebuilt a few years ago by BGH geartech. I had it bolted to the back of a 3.9 Rover V8 in a Sapphire autograss car, what a handfull she was on the loose!

Basically a quite few people on here and other forums have had engines made for them cash handed over etc engines either took too long or were built and when they run them up BANG but thats your fault apparently forget the fact they built it and they were running it on there bench and if ordering parts you'll be waiting a long while to get them thats even if they turn up!
Also when you talk to them they seem to know what they're doing/talking about but clearly not when your engine goes bang without you even having it!

They had Ade500's engi engine for a few years and fucked it he's taking it through the courts theres a few other people i know doing the same because as said we're not talking a few hundred quid when you get an engine built to good spec your talking thousands!

Mine was built by Mike at boost performance guys. I will post pics and Julian godfreys report on why the engine failed once I have exhausted all avenues with Mike in court etc.

Only to clarify, I don't want someone else getting the blame for mikes work.

Thanks to everyone on here for warning me about TOP BOSS. Was looking to be ordering parts from them some time in the near future. For what i need I will go to my local blacksmiths and use his lathe (when the boss isn't in...I used to work there and we had a big fall out lol) I'm just wanting my engine in and running retaining the standard management for now. Has anyone had success using megasquirt on a B.O.B or should I hang on until I can afford an Emerald ECU? I cant fault Dave Walker at Emerald for his after sales help and advice. Will be interesting to see other threads of all of you that are using this engine and the builds in particular. Will be posting pics of mine so far soon.
Don.

You can mate the t5 direct to a v6 using a bellhousing from a mustang. Not sure of the model but they occasionally pop up. A mate spent £480 for a bellhousing off burton that needed modding to fit then found this out. I'm sure u will locate one if u do a bit of research on the net. If your going to use the car hard the type 9 will die! Mine was a low miler out of a capri and only last a few months.

Rick wood makes the t5 one and it was a direct fit. I heard the mustang one has a 15 degree incline to the driver in the states
