I haven't had a dump valve since I was 19 lol.
Had turbo cars ever since (11yrs ) and never killed a turbo yet.
I'm running 2.1bar through my t34 and its fine.
of course you will get some pedant come along and say we are all wrong to call it waste gate chatter as its air going backwards through the turbo and nothing to do with the wastegate
yeah keep it, or fit a recirc, they can cause turbo damage at big boost eapecially, trying to stall the turbo when its under such load is never a really good idea lol.
Also, the car in the vid sounds like it has a dv anyway.
yeah i thought that too. iv always read that big boost and no dump valve is asking for trouble. am i right in thinking it can shatter the turbo blades or have i read wrong??
With big psi it needs a release just like a boiler/heater system has an expansion vessel and pressure relief valve other wise whole system would implode on itself under big load/spool up
I also thought that too! What benefits does having a DV have over not having 1!
Wes
im not the expert here but a dv releases the built up turbo pressure when you close the throttle.unused turbo pressure hits a closed butterfly and got no where to go so backs up to the turbo where the blades chop the air causing chatter and stalls the turbo. dv releases this pressure so turbo doesnt get stalled by back pressure.
So from what i'm reading if you dont run a DV you will defenatly increase turbo lag, if your slowing/stalling the turbo it will increase lag over a dv ststem which keeps the turbo spinning so it can come in/spool up quicker
Turbosmart do a dual valve, which recirculates at low pressures, but then will blow to atmophere when you give it some beans, pretty cool, as they are quiet around town.
Mine chatters when I give it a little bit...not full boost ...but if I give it full boost the DV sound only ... Which I suppose is safe ... Safe is the only way for me... Roll on when I get a new engine and turbo... I want at least 40psi
I can't hear mine at all becuase the car is so noisey, I do hear the wastegate (I think thats what it is) slam shut though, it makes an ACE noise!
As above, I wouldn't reccomend running w/o one at your level Matt, shock loads the turbo and decreases lifespan. i used to do it on smaller/cheaper turbos cause i was a hero and didn't care when they went bang but i'm too tight to do that nowadays.

I thought mine was laggy with the dump valve took off it.
You will get "turbo chatter" if you remove it, not a good idea as it will shorten the life of the turbo, or worse snap the compressor wheel etc, especially with higher boost.
The sound is excess boost being forced backwards through the pipework and through the turbo itself, it has nothing to do with the wastegate!
You won't increase lag, but if you can imagine without a D/V your stalling the turbo, so it has to keep "re-spooling".
As said just fit a recirc one if you don't want the sound (As Ford did in the first place )

If you are refferring to my reference of the wategate on my car, then you have misunderstood what I was saying, I have a DV on my car and perfectly aware of what turbo stall is.
i took my dump valve off at the weekend and mine doesn't chatter whatsoever but reading that it may cause turbo damage i will re-fit it although im not a fan of the noise tbh
what did the group a boys do with their turbo cars back in the day re dumpvalves? i personally dont like the noise but im only at 1 bar of boost on a sturdy old t3 so no need. at 2bar id put up with the noise rather than cause premature wear on your turbo. the rising rate type thing sounds like a winner only releasing at higher boost levels.
