Default tdci mondeo mk3 cutting out (no codes)

Hi there.

New to this site.
I wonder if you can he

I have brought a Mondeo tdci 130 estate (53 plate) with 117000 miles on it.

It keeps cutting out. (with the glow plug light flashing)

I blanked off the ecu valve.
Serviced it
changed the fuel filter

And now i am stuck!!

It cuts out speradically (which is not great on the outside of a motorway!)

I have had it read by 2 garages and both times it showed no codes!

The engine runs rougher than it think it should and struggles to get past 70mph.

Any thoughts? Like i said I have had it read by 2 garage code readers and it shows nowt!!

cheers

I think the glow plug light flashing is a symptom of injector issues. They always fail on the tdci's at around that sort of mileage.

Would that not come up when it is plugged in to a code reader?

Normally brings code up. Something like knock threshold reached or along them lines. When you say cutting out you mean loses power or actually cutting out? Does it chuck out any white smoke or idle rough? Does it have electronic actuator? Mine showed nothing on two readers but then actuator on the third one.

Hi. The light comes on, the power drops straightaway then it will sometimes totally cutout! don't know if it has an actuator. (its a 53 plate?)

Sometimes if i nurse it very gently it will not happen (sometimes even giving some power it doesn't happen)
Starts fine
no smoke
runs well when cold. gets worse when it reaches temp.
no codes. Even drove to the garage with the light on. He had to turn it off to plug the reader in and no faults in both parts of the reader!

ggrrr If i didn't have so far to drive to work i'd take my 1975 vw camper... more bloody reliable but 19mpg and no heater!!! lol

He had a bit of a poor reader tbh mate, most record the fault codes that were stored, although sometimes they do clear when the engine gets knocked off and on.
You'll really need the codes though to make a good diagnosis mate,it could honestly be anything.

Have a look on turbo at back of engine. You will see if it has a electronic actuator easy enough. It sounds like actuator trouble or turbo sticking through carbon build up.

yeah i reckon its that too.earlier rubbish ones were black and were superseded to grey ones.normally injector issues glow plug will flash and lose power but not cut out.

needs more investigation i reckon as could be a list of things causing it

Hi guys,

I have cleaned the MAF

The cam sensor is Black. Can the black ones got too?

Still juders when on the duel carageway to work.

Seems to be worse when warm

When the light comes on, if i then switch it off for 10 seconds or so, it seams to sort itself out for a bit??

Still no codes !!!........ I never have luck with cars!! These newer ones seam to be made to fall apart at 100000 miles!!

Have you tried a different fault code reader?

Generally when the cam sensor goes, the car cuts out (check the connection, as it may be loose, rather than faulty)

How does it drive with the MAF disconnected?

Is it a Euro3 or Euro4 engine (is the EGR electronic, or just vac actuated?)

its a vac EGR (no wires)?
Blanked it off the main hole and put a ball bearing in the small hose.

Default Same Problem !!

Hi,

Did you manage to sort the problem out?

I literally have the same problem as you but i cant notice any difference when driving, drives perfectly and randomly cuts out.

Had it fully serviced last week and no codes came up. got it checked yesterday and a P007f error came up. It relates to a sensor on the intake which i doubt will cause the car to cut out without any warning?

I've read that corroded pipes around the fuel pump may be letting air in but its more of a stab in the dark.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Try squirting some egr cleaner down the intake whilst someone holds it at 2000rpm,this sorted mine ,turbo was sticking & putting it into limp home.

Same here, same engine, same year. No error codes, cuts out when under full throttle with flashing glowplug light. Also idles like a tractor when cold.

Injectors, all four worn out. Leaking back too much fuel, caused the fuel rail pressure to drop beyond what the ECU considered acceptable.

For some inexplicable reason, this error is sufficient for the ECU to cut the engine.

Did you stick with standard injectors?
Thinking if mine is the same fault might fit the 2.2 injectors?

Yeah, standard injectors. Didn't know you could fit 2.2 injectors to a 2.0 - is this beneficial?

Debatable, but I think with a few other mods yes.
Do you mind me asking what you paid for the injectors?

Just under a grand, which was incidentally just under what I paid for the car.

That included having them fitted etc.
