Hi there
I'm looking at new wheels for my '93 Saff Cos 4x4 and I have my sights on a set of 7,5x17 inch RS seven spokes (ET 38 mm). What would be the best tyresize for these, without having to fiddle with arches or so? I believe that 215/40-17 is best. What do you guys say?

I have Compomotive Mo's 17 x 7.5 ET38 and have been recommended to run either 215/40/17 or 225/40/17 tyres. The choice was mine.
I went for the 215 as it was a fuck load cheaper for tyres as i'm a tight coont

Looks nice.
I'm going for a 25 or 30 mm lowering koni setup.
And i'll get the wheels in april, brand new, directly from Cologne.
I can see, that you got the Laguna front splitter.....looks great.
My car is getting a full respray in the original Ebony black next winter and by then i'll also get a Laguna splitter.
It's my first Cossie, I got it 1 year ago from the southern part of Italy, so there's absolutely no rust what so ever. Sweeeet...

Does anyone know, if there is room for 225/35-17 (on the 7,5x17 RS 7 Spoke), without having to roll the arches (both front and rear)? I remember I have seen a picture of a silver saff on PF.com with RS 7 spokes diamond cut with 225/35-17, but it was only on the rear (think it had 205/40 on the front).
There's plenty room under saf arches to fit 17 or 18 inch wheels provided the wheels are the correct offset. Mine has the soft RS 7 Spokes as well and thats lowered on a full koni -25mm kit all round . I can have a car load of mates and a bootfull of beer and they never rub, but you will have to fit spacers on the front wheels otherwise the inside of the alloy will catch on the brake calipers.

It's the exact same wheels i'm getting (and also 25mm lowering). But I haven't heard about spacers for the front before? I know the offset is 38mm on the 7,5x17 7 spokes. How thick do those spacers have to be?
What tyresize do you have on yours?
Cheers
Tommy
Its not the RS 7 Spoke offset that causes them to catch the calipers but the design off the inside of the wheel, when we mounted the wheel, the back of the spokes sat very, very, close to the brakes on the front and i wasn't keen to run the car like that so we fitted 3mm shims on the front hubs then bolted on the wheels and that was much better with plenty clearance between the inner wheel and the caliper. I run with 215x40x17 vredsteins all round and as you can see from these pics there's still plenty room , even though she's been lowered. One thing i would say about these wheels though is that because of their design, all the road dirt and brake dust is thrown out as they turn , so much so that you will never be done but cleaning them. Even going for a blast on a dry day gets them manky

I guess i'll need 3mm shims also then.
I can see, that there is enough room between the outside of the wheel and the arches. But how much space are there on the inside, between the shocks and the wheels on the front of the car? But as it is 17 inch wheels, I believe that they go under the "springcups" (don't know what they are called...the "springbed" maybe??) on the shocks.
Regarding cleaning the wheels, well atleast there is room for your hands, to clean them in between the spokes.
Trust me, there's plenty room , they turn full lock with no rubbing.
Big as the saf arches are though, they do have there limits. Today i tried on a set of 18 inch Escort Cosworth offset Masitaly wheels that are fitted with 225x40x18 rubber. They went on alright and looked the mutts but rubbed like a bitch at the back and wouldn't allow the car to steer any further than half lock.
